A red cock salmon took a small buoyant fly on a heavy shooting head as the cold mist cleared off the neck of the spring pool. My first salmon for a long time.

Water conditions looked perfect having dropped over the last 2 days. First time on this beat and a little daunted at first what with some tricky wading.
Blanked, albeit a couple of tentative pulls (probably only trout). Probably wasted a lot of time working out the best lies but look forward to another visit at some point.

Sorry to say no fish caught or seen all day. Met a couple of other top chaps on the beat as well. Typical salmon angler "Not enough water" probably holds true for the day and the summer around here for that matter. Still beats a day at work, pitching flies in this beautiful upper Wye.

Gloriously sunny day!!! 11" and steady (Llanstephan gauge) A few suicidal WBTs but no salmon caught, seen or heard. But can't help but still like the beat. Oh, and the perpendicular walkboard to the boards on Spring Gutter has completly gone. Shame as it would've been useful to fish this pool given the conditions.

No salmon caught or seen. Day stared really well with heavy rain and good water level but fish did not want to play the ball. Urgent matters made abandon fishery early afternoon but I'll be back soon to have some more of that tough love what is salmon fishing.

I thought I had missed my chance for a Salmon as the mini spate seemed to have gone but had the good fortune to land a 10lb Salmon in Spring pool which took my Silver Stoats tail. Marvellous - didn't see another fish all day.

River up and so were my hopes for salmon. Not to be unfortunately. About a dozen of WBT came to my hand (one fish well over 2lbs) and two 3-4lbs chub. Good day of fishing but no cigar.
Well maintain beat and helpful owner. Thank you.

Having read DC and RS feedback for the same day its comforting for us (and perhaps them!) to know that we were not the only ones that struggled. Given we were on the next beat down hardly surprising that we had the same cold squally weather and that the fish were not very interested. Total was 5 wbt best 14" and only the 1 10" grayling to our two rods - all the trout came between 5 and 6 pm when there was a small hatch of olives and the fish woke up. The trout were all on the skinny side - has feeding been poor this summer? In pleading mitigation this was my first outing since coronary and I was fishing gently!

None salmon caught or seen. Disappointed as previous anglers caught fish here. Low water and hot day with clear sky in my defence. Beautiful beat though. Will be back when conditions are more suitable to get catch return right.
