16 x grayling 9-11 inches, 1 x out of season trout 12 inches, trotting. River high and clear and air temperature v cold. With a wind it would have been most unpleasant, but the air was still. Black Mountains spectacularly white today. First part of the session wasted with icing rod rings and searching for grayling where they weren't. Eventually found a pod of modest sized grayling and the air temperature crept up a bit.

A beautiful day on the river; snow on the mountains, blue sky and bright sun (too bright). Unfortunately no fish caught. The river was high following heavy rain 36 hours before and almost impossible to wade. Trotted maggots may have been more successful than nymphs but I didn't have any.

A return to this beat after about 10 years. We love it. Forgot about the steep drive down to the hut but my little van got out after clearing the leaves from the track. Grayling caught from Leaning Willow and below Hierag pool, trotting.
Loads of oss trout. Newly fitted tungsten wader studs brilliant - money well spent and I recommend them to anyone new to wading in the Wye.

2 x grayling 10-12 inches, 1 x large chub, long trotting. Plus a run-in with an aggressive salmon which attacked a double maggot bait being reeled upstream. Thankfully it came off after a few seconds. Otherwise, not much to report. River still high and cold and I failed to contact grayling in any numbers on this very cold morning.

Very nice conditions today: 13 degrees, river clear and 1’ 5” on the Llanstephan gauge. Expected a better return than 3 grayling (best 14”) and 2 oos trout (12”) but that’s life.

6 members of Charfield Angling Association enjoyed a day on Ty-Newdd, Gromain and Llangoed. After breakfast at the fishing hut on Gromain, we split up with two per beat. The river was at 1’9” on the Erwood gauge, so it was high but fishable. The colour had run out and visibility was good. We caught lots of smallish grayling, between about 8” and 10”, with a few larger grayling to about 14”. All on nymphs, with only a few un-catchable fish rising outside the fishing hut at lunchtime. A few salmon splashing about and a kingfisher on patrol. The Wye Valley was in autumnal colours and a glorious sight.

First time on this beat good variety of water ,wading is difficult. Fished weighted nymphs all morning as no fish showing, to no avail. Resorted to trotting after lunch attracting numerous oos brown trout so returned to fly. GS stuck to fly and was rewarded with Grayling on PT nymph. Homebrew cider in fishing hut was interesting! Some road noise on this beat .
