Beautiful beat, and a fun hut. We didn't start until 2ish but the river was still quite angry then, dropping away as the day went on to a perfect height. V hopeful for Friday. Two good trout, and I am sure I was "bounced" by a salmon, and had something of size on and off later on.

After a late start due to car problems arrived at the river at one o'clock, river had risen overnight and now seemed to be dropping. Fished until six with one brown trout of about half a pound caught. No salmon seen but still an enjoyable afternoon in the autumn sunshine.

The river and weather were in perfect condition for salmon fishing, and other fishers were catching and seeing moving fish.
I on the other hand was unable, even with advice from a Teifi fishing guide and the kind gift of a size 8 ally shrimp from Dr Marsh Smith, to capitalise on what the Wye had to offer. My consolation was the interesting conversations I had with everyone on the beat, which I will visit again, and the excellent breakfast at the Honey Cafe.

Went down today feel rather down heartened with the lack of fish both on the Wye and the Usk.We have not caught any fish on the Usk and only a couple on the Wye between Brian and myself.Never mind you have to keep going and things might change. With the river a wee bit on the high side we started on the Spring pool but nothing ,down to the pool by the hut Brian fishing the top and me fishing the bottom.I finally broke my duck catching my first salmon on the fly and on the Wye,it was a coloured fish of 14-15lb which swam away strongly.High hopes now again !!
