A cold start 5C and rain in the afternoon pegged temperature back to 12C. Good water levels in the river. A brief break in the cloud around 2:00pm allowed the sun through and rising temperatures produced a short March Brown hatch of around 5 mins. Trout started rising and by the time the tackle was changed to a dry fly it was all over. Hooked a small aerobatic trout earlier in the morning on a nymph but it came off. Great to wet a line after the long winter close season.

A nice hatch of LDOs encouraged a few fish to rise and we managed to tempt a few to spiders and emergers. Lovely day to be on the river and to open the 2026 account.

Very windy. Although the wind helped a bit to reduce the road traffic noise.

I only managed a couple of hours before leaving for home. Cold and squally weather as forecast. Fish - mainly small, one larger - came from the riffles on nymphs.

River not as low as expected, but bottom is still coated with cloying sludge.
A couple of heavy showers bought on some fly hatches but v little response to them. The other thing it did was bring the unmistakeable smell of sewage into the river. Its time this antiquated system was fixed.
