After spending many hours searching for river beats we have booked in other parts of the country we were very impressed with both the text description & map. The booking system is great & the beat excellent. A bit frightening when a pack of hounds came through the swim within a few feet of me and ruining the swim. We will be using the foundation again & on a regular basis.

12 x grayling 12-16 inches, 2 x out of season trout 12 and 15 inches, Pink Shrimp and Tungsten Hare's Ear. The dry spell continues, so Arrow is still very low and clear. I worked on some of the deeper runs and dubs with a short rod and two heavy nymphs - only one fish seen rising to some pale watery duns hatching during the afternoon so it didn't seem worth changing method. This was in fact a really nice bag of grayling: just two smaller fish and all the rest were like peas in a pod, 15 and 16 inches, which is most encouraging. Three or so years ago, more than half of the catch would have been stocked trout put in during the summer. Now the stocking has ceased and I am convinced the wild fish will have benefited (both the by-catch trout on this occasion were wild Arrow fish). Otherwise, Herefordshire looked as good as it always does in autumn colours (I admit this, even though I am a Gloucestershire man) and apples everywhere waiting to be picked.

Very tough going, low flow in water and very limited rises, what did rise was brought to hand: 5 oos trout all 12-16 inches. The few grayling and remaining oos trout came to very heavily weighted shrimp patterns. The trout was 9 inches grayling two at 14 inches 1 at 8 inches. Hard to locate grayling today...I have fished the beat adjoining the Leen upstream and been very lucky to witness otters working the pools with deadly precision..not so lucky for the fishery and fish stocks.. so maybe they have attacked the Leen also. My guess would be most definitely.

Trotted maggots in deeper pools and picked up four grayling of about 1lb each, the two trout were 12 and 18 inches, both in great condition and still quite plump which is a good sign. Struggled to locate the bigger grayling but did get snapped after a good tussle with a fish of about 2-3 pound who found the fast water and my mainline gave when I applied some pressure. Good to fish the Leen, sadly a wee bit to much water for my liking.

Six in total, 4 grayling to trotted maggot and two oos brownies also. River OK for first hour and half then rose rapidly and coloured up with the amount of rain. All came from the same pool. All grayling ten inches, one brownie 8 inches the other 14 inches. Shame the rain destroyed what promised to be a good days fishing but will be back on this beat once levels drop enough to give it another bash.

First fishing of 2015 took me to the Arrow for winter grayling. The water was coloured but I gave it a go with both upstream nymphing with pink shrimps and trotting with maggots.
Both techniques produced fish. Nothing of any size but there are plenty of fish in this section of the river based on the number of bites I missed!

Enjoyable day's fishing in cold, bright conditions on a very attractive beat. River running fast and quite clear. Bites hard to come by but I caught two smallish but beautifully conditioned Grayling, one 10.5" & one 9" long, to float-fished maggot from two different swims upstream of the access bridge. Good views of Kingfisher & Dipper added to the day's enjoyment.

A bitter cold day with some sunshine. The Arrow was carrying a bit of extra water from recent rain and with a tinge of colour I was almost going to turn around and come home. My client was keen to try though and thanks to his enthusiasm we banked 7 grayling and lost one very good one, all to trotted maggot. Each fish was in perfect condition. Some of the pools had changed and a few fallen trees made certain runs I had in mind, unfishable. No trout, but we did catch a bullhead trundling bottom - haven't seen one of those since I was a kid, mad little thing. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable days fishing.

8 x grayling 10-12 inches, 1 x out of season trout (wild) 11 inches, trotting. Another sunless and misty day, but warm enough at 10 degrees in the afternoon. Not too much colour in the Arrow, but still a bit high and turbulent. A few grayling in the edddies and slacks, but I couldn't find them in the runs today. The grayling weren't really keen and no big ones, but it was pleasant to potter along one of my favourite small river beats in Herefordshire. Tony the owner came along, looking to spot salmon redds.

Really hard going, a bit too much water but perfect visibility for czech nymphing. Fish not interested at all. fished hard on the bottom under the rod tip and lost a lot of flies but couldn't seem to find any hard feeding fish. Two fish to 12 inches and one of 14, no small fish at all. Freezing until about 1pm, then cold rain. Fish all caught within half an hour of each other from middle of beat. A gritty day on the Arrow.
