A poor day as far as the Barbel were concerned. Couldn't locate them in any of the usual spots on this beat. River very low and lots of surface/sub surface weed coming through making life difficult. Heavy overnight rain later and early next morning made the rest of the week (on non Wye and Usk swims) much better.

1 Barbel, 10 Chub

River low, slow and very weedy. Did not look like a barbel stretch but what do we know. We struggled to catch after trying various methods and managed 4 chub between us. We normally catch quite well on other wye usk waters. This certainly is the most panoramic views of all the venues we have fished. Do not know if we will return to this venue but it may fish better with more flow later in year. Hill climb is horrendous, would not attempt this if you are unfit or have a heart condition. We had to have a good rest afterwards.

4 Chub

River very low, so fished late afternoon/evening. We caught 2 barbel and 2 chub from below the streamer weed in the first 200 yards of the venue.

2 Barbel, 2 Chub

Lots of swims cut out on this fishery so plenty to go at however we made our own after my professional barbel spotter took a wander and found some in a very inaccessible area where we have found them before. Our rope came in handy today.
We managed six barbel and two chub from late afternoon onwards on 10mm pellets. Started on a straight lead set up but kept snagging on rocks so changed to a maggot feeder with large pellets inside to leave a scent trail and that worked well with no snagging up either.
Today's wildlife included buzzard, cormorant, swans fighting, but the best was a sparrowhawk that missed its prey and ended up in the river looking rather embarrassed.

6 Barbel, 2 Chub

2nd day on beat still low and clear but more flow than yesterday. 6 chub between 3lb and 4lb 11oz and 1 barbel 7lb 11oz all on feeder tatics. Farmer strimmed swims in the morning making it a lot easier to get to the river in many places.

1 Barbel, 6 Chub

River low, weedy with very little flow. 2 x 3lb chub and a 2lb Brown Trout on floatfished sweetcorn. And a 5lb Barbel on feeder.

1 Trout, 1 Barbel, 2 Chub

We were all very disappointed with this beat. 2/3 of a mile of fishing with only 3 jungle busting safe places to fish. There has been no attempt by riparian owners to create something of a coarse fishery. Banks are very steep and heavily vegetated or tree lined to make access impossible. Some good Barbel were seen among the Ranunculus in places where it was simply unsafe or impossible to fish. We stayed to 1pm and then abandoned the beat. Not worth the £60 we paid to fish here. Very disappointed.

A beautiful stretch of the river Wye. However there is a price to pay. A steep walk down the path to the riverbank (would be a nightmare if it was wet) and then barely anywhere to get down to the river. Be prepared to cut your way into the swims. Walked to the top end of the beat and baited up the pool below the Croy and then moved downstream to a shallower section where I managed to get into the river. Trotted crust from a centrepin with the sun on my back for about an hour taking three hard fighting Chub, fantastic. Moved up to the Croy and sat it out until about 11.00am with two more Chub taken on feeder with pellet. Retired for lunch and came back about 3.30pm. Unfortunately no Barbel but five more Chub taken from the deeper water at the beginning of the Beat. A fantastic two days fishing. 12 Chub

Fished just the morning from 6am until lunch time. Walked to the top of the beat to the croy. We had a small Barbel and 3 average sized Chub on Corn. River very low and I think this pool fishes better with another foot or so on. Usually fish the middle of the beat in waders but with only being a short session did not bother. Fished the deep water towards the downstream end and had another Barbel and a Chub. The Barbel was 7.05 but was a very long and lean fish which looked bigger. Last years pegs are completely overgrown again so be prepared to make your own swims!
