Fished by Boy's Rock (back eddy gave problems) and then next swim down for 7 hrs without a bite - and then had an 8lb barbel on halibut pellet. Well worth the wait! Several salmon seen jumping out - the crash does keep you awake!

Dawn start with cold overnight temps down to 2c driving to the venue this morning. Cold, clear skies and bright sunshine. Groundbait and pellet feeders to start and first drop I had the rod tip bending round after 10minutes. A strong fight with no quarter given had a fantastic condition chub taking the scales round to 4lb 15oz. The barbel caught yesterday was returned unweighed but looked around 4lb. Not bites for the rest of the morning when we left at 12.

Fished at top end of the beat, first swim down from Boys Rocks which is the only swim suitable for doubling up with two anglers. Lost several fish amongst the weed and the rocks finally landing our first barbel. Water was gin clear with bright blue skies in sunshine. Salmon were regularly topping and jumping which makes this stretch very picturesque.
Fished groundbait and pellet swim feeder switching to maggot feder later when bites had dried up on the close in rod. Barbel came to bunch of maggots fished on the edge of the eddies.

2nd day on this beat the weed coming through had reduced and we had a far better days fishing. I finished with 6 Barbel from 7lb to 9lb 10 oz and Martin had 3, best 10 lb. All fish came to meat baits fished with heavy feeders. We fished several swims along the beat and caught from them all.

Day 1 was a blank the river had risen and there was lots of weed coming through dislodging the feeders and causing snags.

Rather warm sunny day, used the swims approx 100 yards past the woodland walk. Gorgeous accessible swim, wonderful wildlife on display. Challenging swim, lively flow and much weed on bottom. Needed to be able to cast past halfway across river, not clear enough to target areas of clear gravel, therefore an element of luck in avoiding the weed. Used standard feeder tactics as trotting would not have been possible in this swim, used boilie hook baits. Challenging to discern the bites sometimes (as opposed to weed effects on the line)and lost some good fish in the weedy conditions but were able to land 6 barbel (to 9lbs). The most experienced and expert barbel angler in our party was able to cope with the conditions better than the rest of us and out-fished us. Thank you for a glorious day.
