The river was coloured with 1'6" visibility when I arrived, but cleared steadily and had dropped by around 4" by the end of the afternoon. One feisty 14" brown trout along with 13 grayling to 15" all carefully returned. Fun to float fish maggots for grayling with a centrepin reel for the first time. There are not so many places suited to trotting on this beat, but it is a lovely section of the Lugg and I will return to it during permitted fly fishing times.

A very slow day. 1 small grayling taken on a PTN. A shame that a lot of the beat is slightly difficult to fish unless wading. OK in the summer, less so in the later part of the year. Still, a day on the river is never wasted.

Fished using nymphs. No fish seen or caught. Tricky getting down to river as quite overgrown.
Water had a blueish colour.
Otherwise, a pleasant day out.

Water cold and cloudy after rain. 2 grayling < 6" on nymphs, missed couple of takes from larger fish (czech nymphing). Margins on south bank difficult with ~3' silt under rushes in many places, north bank has electric fence over most of its length although there are gates for access in places on upper part of beat. Himalayan Balsam much in evidence. Still, a pleasant afternoon exploring and with more experience of the beat I expect it could be quite productive.

I had countless rises to Tups Indispensable - all small fish and couldn't get them to take the fly or at least the hook. I had a similar experience but hooked 4 fish recently using a small gnat type but with white on it to make it visible.
My second rod was fishing on a stream for the first time and caught his first grayling - tiny but they call count and one more than me using a small Klinkhammer.
Access below the bridge was ok and above the bridge through head high shrubbery and nettles involved a wade down to the bridge and the fished upstream.
Just need to work out how to hook the little blighters.

This beat holds a lot of good fish, numerous pools that all seemed to hold decent sized grayling. only problem is its impossible to reach a lot of the water as its so overgrown. I got lost at one point trying to get through the 8ft high Himalayan balsam, Still, the bits you can get to are really productive.
