Very nice day on the river after so long off it. Couple of fat brownies and an out of season Grayling. Bridge section and downstream riffle again being my saving grace.
Hot hot day (look like a cherry tomato) feel as if the fish were sleeping it off down low. Also quite some tally from the gent yesterday!
All poor excuses I know.
Thanks again to WUF!

We caught nothing. The rain had fallen for the previous day and the river was up round our ears. We walked th4e water, had a few desultory casts and then went off in search of a still water for the rest of the day.

Took a friend out in search of his first ever Grayling and we weren't half rewarded! He caught an absolute specimen at 2lb or more. It's amazing fish of that size are lurking in there really. Lugg and Arrow fantastic Grayling rivers, no doubt about it. 4 fish total.
Also, I happened to hear that formidable sound once again, the squeak of an otter. Fish had seen a scrap or two also. Seems we aren't the only ones who know the fishing is good.....

Another evening on the Lugg - the last this year, the evenings are drawing in already! Again not much surface activity....one pod of rising grayling yielded a nine incher and much more excitement as the rest kept coming and missing the fly....
Last knockings a fish crunched in a streamy run which turned out to be another Lugg beauty - about 8 inches - but that was our lot. Lovely evening to be out though.

Despite being low the water was very cloudy/milky for some reason, with nothing rising. Only a very limited amount of the beat is really accessible, so a disappointing evening.

A couple of hours in the evening. Found a decent fish feeding in an open area and he nailed my d/h caddis first cast, interesting few minutes keeping him out of the weed, 16inches! I’m guessing at the water there could be lots more and bigger here. All other fish between 7-10 inches. After fishing and crashing through the undergrowth In bare sleeves, I suspect I have brushed past Japanese Hogweed, I have quite a few suspicious rashes that aren’t looking to good, long sleeves for me now on.

The day was very windy, so no fly hatches and no rising fish. Only fished for a couple of hours, nothing seen. Note that this beat is very overgrown - much more than in previous seasons.
