Access down to the river was terrible, the pathway was totally overgrown and, had I not fished this beat many times before, I would not have even known that the pathway continued. I love wild fishing and far prefer the natural arena of a river, but, having paid £60+ for our tickets I do feel some maintenance should take place. The pathway near the river is very rocky and we couldn't see where we were putting our feet, it would have been very easy to have slipped and fallen. I'm not asking for anything that detracts from the natural feel of the place, but a bit of strimmer work to allow a clear path to the river to be seen seems a fair thing to ask for the cost of the ticket.

My son and I managed to get down into the river to wade to the best looking spot. The river was clear and very shallow, the sky was clear and sunny all day. We started on feeder and had a few knocks but nothing positive. After multiple casts resulted in snags and lost tackle we decided to change tactics and fished float instead.

This resulted in 6 chub to around 3lb on pellet, meat and bread, with a few lost fish too.

We really enjoyed the day, my son fished with great focus and determination and I'm glad a change of tactics resulted in some good fish. I'd love him to catch his first barbel though so we will return as I've done so well here in the past.

River level according to Gov.uk at Lydbrook was dropping from 1.01m to 1.00m through the day.

A great early season day on the wye, have been fishing this beat for a few years now and I must say this is the worst I have seen the access. We did however manage to get down to the river and with the river not carrying to much water we were able to set up in the shallows. Fish came throughout the day with a quiet couple of hours at the hottest point. All came to feeder tactics. Although we had a decent days fishing if the water levels were any higher we would not have had enough bank space to put down two chairs, such a shame usually such a well looked after beat.

River very high and fast due to the months of constant rain. Fished with around 10 maggots on the hook + maggot feeder. Tough fishing but managed to land 1 chub that was 2-3lbs and a small trout around 1lb. Both returned.
