Fished two days on Courtfield. Nice beat overall, over the road just behind you is very noisy. Caught number of fish from different swims through out the day. fishing 3 years on they Wye I was never controlled to check what hooks or bait am I using, which is wrong. Found a few barbed hooks on the banks and in fish'es mouths including some on what must have been a 6lb line!!

River extremely low and clear with little pace - really struggled with nothing at all happening until last knockings when lost 1 barbel and mate had one and a chub. Desperately needs a good flush through.

So day 2 arrived, again decided to go to the woods stretch, river hadn't come up overnight so swims accessible
Stuck with pellet and feeder to start, using open end feeder and straight led, tried everything we had in the locker,
No signs other than the bleak descending on the ground bait cloud like piranhas on every cast, rolled meat under trees, down the channel, all to no avail.
To relieve the boredom fished banded 3mm feed pellets on waggled catching bleak and small dace one a chuck!
Regrouped mid afternoon and we're hoping for a glorious last couple of hours, Phil managed a 1/2lb Barbel then a 6lb 2oz Right at the death.
I failed to catch a Barbel for first time on the Wye, very frustrating 2 days.
Had a quick visit from one of the other two anglers booked on day, they had managed one chub from the meadow, had fished other stretches during the week but with very little to show,Last year they had cleaned up with same tactics from same swims, on same stretches but with a bit of colour in the river last year.
All in all took some learnings from 2 days, saw the Wye wild life in all its glory, despite the close proximity of the road,
Will certainly return for another go when the rivers had a flush of water through!

Once again it was very slow going and judging by the reports from the other anglers on the beat it was not just me that was struggling. Hopefully this weekends rain will liven things up.

Well that's why it's called fishing and not catching as the saying goes!
We had originally booked the 5th on Wyebank and 6th on Courtfield, having read the fishing reports and with an eye on a Wye Pb we shifted the Wyebank booking which we had booked out for £75 for exclusivity, onto Courtfield meaning we had 2 days to try for a big fish.
We hadn't fished the stretch previously so got there at first light to recce the stretch, from the reports we plumbed for the wooded stretch, river very low and clear but looked inviting.
It rained heavily during the morning making moving about a bit dodgy on the riverside path, managed a hat trick of falls but managed to avoid breaking anything.
We fished 6-2 with very little sign fishing From the rocks, decided to move up to the meadow, managed 4 chub and 2 big eels on pellet and meat, no signs of barbel.
Retreated to a B&B to regroup and warm up and dry out the kit !
Bring on day 2 .

A difficult day due to low water levels, cool morning temperatures and long periods of bright sunshine in the afternoon. We stayed mobile to eventually find some fish in the faster flowing areas. Lost a few decent fish to braided hook lengths being cut on sharp rocks but we did land a few fish including Barbel to 9lb 10oz and Chub to 3lb 6oz. All caught on a pretty standard pellet/groundbait feeder approach.
