Arrived at 7 a.m. to find the river at good fishing height (0.72m and falling) but unexpectedly a deep red colour with visibility of 6 inches.

Toiled with a large gold and yellow flying C for 6 hrs with only a 4oz and and 8oz trout (equals my season's record!) to show for my efforts. Owner Barry arrived with a colleague and a most enjoyable afternoon ensued. River dropped to 0.64m during the day clearing slowly. Had a swish with the 15 footer for a few hrs. Then spun below the bridge. Not a trout or salmon showed all day. Decided to have a last fling on Rock at 6pm and was rewarded for my persistence when a lovely 10lb hen accepted my Golden Killer, tore off with attitude and leapt out of the water above me. After a lively fight she was returned and swam off strongly. Another lovely and lucky day.

After the promise of much needed rain from the Met Office arrived to find the the river still showing its bones 0.42 on the gauge and crystal clear.
Met fellow blog brother (L.T. from Creigiau) for the first time and as anticipated enjoyed a lovely day in his company.
Swished in vain with the 15ft on upper beat then left L.T. casting for trout rising to a reasonable hatch of Ephemera.
Arrived at newly manicured lower beat and found it much more accessable. Saw a fish chase and take my Rollo Silver Bullet (copper blade) just above the cables and landed a 6lb red cock fish - safely returned.
Entered the water under Oaks with all the delicacy of a sheep falling in. Even the resulting tsunami didn't put off a similarly red 7lb cock fish which took first cast - again safely returned. More salmon madness. Two in 15 minutes-another great day!

Very sunny day and river very low, not ideal. Beautiful beat, well maintained. I fished from 8am to 8pm but did not see a fish (salmon or brownie). Few rising late (chub).

River was a bit low. Tried hard but no fish. Fly fished solely for Salmon but no luck. I like the beat, as does my wife who finds the bank a pleasant reading spot. Wye and Usk Foundation very efficient and helpful.

We saw no salmon. We saw good sized trout, but failed to tempt them. The water level seemed low and the river was very clear. We left at latish tea time after the rain set in.

Fishing by 6am after a 4.30am start. River 0.68m falling slowly and slight tint - perfect.
Saw a small fish head and tail close to the right bank opposite the pub decking. Thought it was a small grilse. Five minutes later a very lively fresh sewin (seatrout) of 3 1/2lb accepted my size 10 Reverend Mole. Although the hook came out easily it had punctured a gill vessel and was bleeding profusely. At least it made a very tasty supper.
By 8am I was fishing Rock when a fish showed by fallen tree but showed no interest in my offerings. Left it for an hour to have a cast on upper Rock with no sign of action then returned. Conditions still perfect and in lovely dappled sunshine a thick-set 10lb colouring hen fish accepted my Golden Killer. She swam off happily after a 5 minute gentle cradling in the current, hopefully to do her bit for the population.
A quite magical dawn on the Usk. Anticipated even more action later but the river unexpectedly started to colour and rise. Left at 1pm. Should be a lovely day for the rods tomorrow.
