Great little beat. Spent a couple of hours after work. Landed one WBT (about 5 inches) on a klinkhammer. Hooked into two more, one on the klinkhammer and the other on a PTN, but failed to get them to the net.

Small brown trout, largest 9 inches. River appears healthy with none of the green slime seen elsewhere. Abundant fly life. Jungle fishing with bow and arrow casting frequently required.

Loads of takes and plenty of fly hatch. The river was coloured and still in partial flood making wading difficult and in some places impassable. However, this was our first trip to this beat and we will return, but it would make it much more enjoyable if access to the river was improved.

5 x grayling 9-15 inches, Tungsten Hare's Ear and Pink Shrimp. We normally expect small grayling from the Dore - after all it is a baby river - but a couple of good ones this morning.

Beautiful beat in a brilliantly secluded part of the county. Water level was just right if a tad high, running cold and clear. Lots of runs to get stuck into and plenty of deep pools too that require skirting round the bank. Fish all took a black-hackled pink-bead nymph thingamajig suspended under a big floaty sedge, all from medium paced riffle/glide hybrid zones. Biggest grayling nudging 10” and just shy of that for the best of the out-of-season trout. Paid a visit to the eponymous abbey which is absolutely stunning and well worth a slow mooch around. A real hidden treasure. Stumbled upon (drove past) a beautiful cider shop too so stocked up on way home. Top notch. Cheers WUF.
