I fished up from Hergest Bridge today. The river was in good condition, good floor and clear when not cow-affected. I caught pretty steadily through the day with one fish of over a pound early on. This was a good day which would have been great but for two very good fish lost late on. Not much bug activity despite nice weather. Some fish on a small olive dry but most on nymphs.

Odd weather this morning when I parked up at half eleven by the bridge ..... a cold breeze and only reading 12 degrees on my trucks dash !!!
The first few pools were very very quiet ..... in fact deadly !!! It did perk up , but most strange, and in fact very little insect life till later in the afternoon ....I should of perhaps tried later on !! I noticed a car parked at the Cregrina beat .....
Eventually started getting hits to my dry fly offerings.....ahhhhhhhh at last !! A couple of nice chunky fish in a tally of eight today ..... another two didn't make it, and ever so kindly released themselves !!!! Sizes between eight snd eleven inches ..... Great takes to my dry fly offerings in fairness ......
The herd of cows are now loose in the field, with a bull !!! Keep your wits about you folks .... they cross the river where that old maroon swing gate is .... so have free access to both sides !!!! Stay vigilant!!!!!!
Not a bad few hours, possibly an otter lower down at the start of the beat ...... as I say it did pick up and had some great sport at the top, with that pocket water before the waterfalls ..... fantastic stuff!!!
Right, onwards and upwards, going to try a little trib High up on the Wye catchment, see if there's any brownies in there...... then there's a cool bottle of Katy cider waiting for me when I get home !!! Lush !!

River unsurprisingly higher than I have seen it before, which made parts inaccessibility due to high banks and deep water. However, a few dry days might sort that out.

Fished p.m., dry Klinkhammer with spasmodic hatches & rises in faster shallower water. The trout brought to hand were 6 to 8 inches with 2 larger fish shedding the hook when airborne. The day ended early with thunder, lightning & torrential downpour.

I knew the Edw would be a bit high, but when I
I parked up by the bridge, she was running a bit coloured too ..... gggrrrrrrrrr, not ideal, but hey ho, I'm here now so I'll crack on kind of attitude ......
She wasn't bad, nothing big today in a tally of seven, and also a few more self released specimens!!! Sizes between six and eight inches. Most of the fish were prospectively caught with a dry Greenwells .... lovely Edw brownies, superb!!!
Three risers I brought to the net, was a shame its coloured , as the height is lovely, be superb by Friday....... ohhhhhhhh might have to give one of the beats an early session ......I saw four mayfly, along with a myriad of uowings and sedges ....
Anyway, still fun, after yesterday's sublime full day up at Nantymoch Reservoir, catching on small wets, and sedgehogs...... fantastic fun, hectic sport literally all day, fab !!!! Really goosed by eight last night though !!! It was basically food and the some Egyptian P.T. on the sofa !!!! Zzzzzzzzzz !!!!
Spoilt big time here in mid Wales..... and so many wild streams, tis like a big jar of sweets isn't it !!!
I packed up by the Hergest Falls bang on four, a slow bimble back to my wagon. Three grey squirrels seen on the walk back, I must contact Allyson, see if I can liase with the farmer, and do some vermin control!!! Anyway, homeward bound, and a bottle of Old Speckled Hen for this callsign ...... yeeessssssss!!!!

Well, another decent morning, but,I think I turned up about 45 minutes toooooo early, the party of LDO's and brook duns had only just got going !!!
Still, dry fly sport was fun here for the four hours I was there. One of my favourite beats, and, having had sublime sport on dries at my local Elan Valley lakes yesterday, was nice being on an old favourite stream ..... like a big mug of Horlicks !!!!
Fish still prepared to hammer a Para Greenwells or a split wing olive .... Great fun as always....Nine beauties to my net , sizes from six to eleven inches , also had a few long range releases...... slippy hooks, lol !!! By half eleven, a good trickle of olives on the go, and a few brook duns too ..... nice to see, at last . These wild streams have been slow off the mark..... Ohh I meant to mention last time, two good trouty pools now ruined, with trees right across them ..Nothing huge, and maneuvering around them isn't an issue, unlike that huge Ash tree on the Kington beat of the Arrow ..... Lots of grey squirrels sighted along this beat , some serious culling needs to be carried out , I'll contact admin to see if the farmer wants them thinned out !!! Young bird and tree damage is pretty intensive by a good few of these Devils!!
Anyway, I finished at about two, lovely mooch upstream, and good sport too !!! Hope B.P. had a good session @ Cregrina .... I'm sure that was his car ???? Right...... choices choices for tommorrow, maybe one of the Arrow beats for a change, back to my old stomping ground lol !!! Homeward bound, and a cool bottle of Old Speckled Hen .....sorted!!!!
