Beautiful beat in a brilliantly secluded part of the county. Water level was just right if a tad high, running cold and clear. Lots of runs to get stuck into and plenty of deep pools too that require skirting round the bank. Fish all took a black-hackled pink-bead nymph thingamajig suspended under a big floaty sedge, all from medium paced riffle/glide hybrid zones. Biggest grayling nudging 10” and just shy of that for the best of the out-of-season trout. Paid a visit to the eponymous abbey which is absolutely stunning and well worth a slow mooch around. A real hidden treasure. Stumbled upon (drove past) a beautiful cider shop too so stocked up on way home. Top notch. Cheers WUF.

First time small stream fishing and thoroughly enjoyed it. There are two trees down towards the top and bottom of the beat which limit access. Plenty of small trout having a go at my small dry fly with one to the net. The beat needs a working party and a chainsaw.

Just a couple of hours around lunchtime.
Saw a few fish rising as I walked to the bottom of the beat, so stuck with dries.
Hooked 4 but did not manage to land them.
Also fished the stretch at Poston Mill on Saturday, again a few fish rising, managed to land 2.

Quick visit to Abbey Dore. No fish seen and none caught. The blockage at the top of the beat is getting bigger, doubt that any fish could get through it if they wanted to.

River at 0.4 and falling on Peterchurch gauge. Visibility about 2'. Arrived at 10.30 with the sun shining, but still chilly in the wind. No fish, but did spook a large trout in the tail of one pool. Tried nymphs in the deep pools, and duo in the shallower areas. Lots of activity on the adjacent range, with plenty of gunfire. Also an RAF Hawk making multiple passes, might have something to do with the elaborate drone they had flying about.
