A tricky morning this morning ….. bowled up at nine , overcast and just a bit of drizzle ….. spot on !!!!Tackled up my usual rig , and initially a Parachute pheasant tail ….. see how she faired !!! I actually stuck with her the whole session …. No I lie , I had one that was attacked by surrounding trees ….. and went missing in action !!!!

Fishing was tricky , not only with the vegetation now , but also the low water … here’s me thinking it may be up just a tad with the recent downpours ….. but no such luck ….. I did thermometer dip it and the reading of 14 degrees , so still good to fish ethically ……..

A few rises today to ….. but I couldn’t get anything to stick initially , two good fish on and off gggrrrrrr!!! Still , that’s fishing hey ..Eventually a lovely splashy rise and the first of the morning to hand , Great stuff !!!!!!pheeeeeeew , I’d zoned in at last … The usual stamp of brownies for here , about eight inches , next few were like peas in a pod too , lovely savage takes though , all about eight or nine inches , gorgeous spotty fish …..love them !

The end tally for the morning when I finished at twelve was six I think …. May have been seven , anyway , still a pleasant mooch on my favourite beat , ….. shame she’s so unkempt and resembling Belize now , but I guess it is July , so half expected …kingfisher busy up and down , and I did disturb a heron , which looked like he was just about to have an early lunch ….. one lucky trout !!!!!!

Really skinny water now up passed the half way point of this beat …. Where I normally get out anyway ….. still , let’s hope we have a few wet days in July ,we certainly need them ,always fun here . Is anyone else attempting the jungle here ….. seems to be only me submitting reports just recently for Hundred House , ………. Come on folks ….. it’s an adventure down there …. Honest !!!!!!!

Well after shift , did a few garden chores , Mrs was heading out , so I bimbled off to my favourite ...... the Edw @ Hundred House ......She's screaming for a good couple of days rain to he honest .... that said , I did a thermometer dip and it was sitting steadily at 15 degrees so was happy with that ................

Fishing was good too .... dry fly action on a Sparkle dun and a tan klinkhammer did the job nicely... equal success on both to be honest.... the usual smash hits to thd dry ... some this afternoon cast to risers and some prospecting !!! Seven made it to the net ranging from.six to ten inches .... usual tubby Edw brownies......fished between half two and half five ... only did a third of the beat ... and got caught in that downpour to .. although I think it was very localised , as the Outskirts of Leominster didn't seem to have had any ..... much needed everywhere now ......

Still , rain was very refreshing and the busy farmers made the hay snd got it done just in the nick of time !!!! Wonderful smell ... freshly cropped fields as you walk through them !! One of those Summer smells you always remember .... anyway ,a pleasant few hours as always ..... love it here !!! Home for a Baileys and a Ludlow game pie ... sorted !!!!

Well , I did have plans to give the tribs a break till more rain is added too them ….. apparently we are getting some the weekend ..!!!!! We shall see. But with the Hundred House beat fishing so well on the Sunday , I couldn’t resist a return visit ,…… early bells too , got there at half seven , I was parking up at the bridge pull in and it was already 13 degrees reading in my truck , 28 degrees when I left at midday….

Anyway , another fab few hours …. I did venture further upstream too , haven’t done that for a couple of years ….. past the jungle area , then it sort of opens out again, strewth , it really is unkempt up there too … like a scruffy school kid needing a dam good haircut !!!! Still , where I could get a cast away , plenty of savage takes to my eighteen para Adams , which I fished along with a tan klinkhammer with equal success this morning ….No mayfly seen at all during my whole session , think that’s the last of them here maybe ..

The usual stamp of fish …. Six to eleven inches , and always beautifully marked these spotty Edw fish… always hit your dry with such aggression , love it !!! Managed ten to the net , half a dozen
didn’t quite make it , and a few mistimed strikes …. In fairness , with the heat bearing down by half ten , I was more than happy with the mornings tally …. Oh and a few Coch y bonddu beetles seen in the meadow on the walk back to the bridge , might just catch an afternoon on Claerwen reservoir , time permitting ….. another pleasant few hours in perhaps my favourite valley ….. lovely job !!!!!

Bit of a change for me ... smashed the front lawns at one , packed the mower away then bimbled off to the Hundred House beat of the Edw .... got there at just before two .... Reading 18 degrees in my truck river not tooooooooo low ... tackled up my old faithful six for two weight ... she's perfect for dries when this beat becomes like a jungle ; as it was this afternoon !!

Boy were the trout Savage this afternoon ... fished between two and six ... only perhaps did a third of the beat ... slow and stealthy are key here !!! Fished a Parachute Iron Blue the whole session .... and didn't loose it either !!! I must spend to much time on these wild streams !!!!!Anyway from three ish plenty of sedge activity and also the mayfly and olives .... so a real platter for the Edw residents!!! Starter main and pud all at once !!!!!

Fishing was superb... Great Savage takes, a few fluffed strikes this afternoon but managed to bring to the net fourteen beauties .... ranging in sizes from six inches right uo to twelve .... one cracker slipped off just before the net .... always the way hey !!!

River is low but still reasonably cold ... stacks of little hungry feisty brownies here with the usual odd surprise !!! Great fun on light tackle ... Tenkara would also be fun here at the mo ! I'm sure it would be effective with little dries ... .....

Kingfisher up and down several times ... the ambience here is just sublime ... love it ... a super few hours on one of my favourite beats ; spot on !!

A fun afternoon spent on the Edw. Despite bright and sunny conditions we had 8 trout up to 10 inches all caught on small dries. Not the easiest casting on this beat, but that’s what made it so enjoyable.

Well ..... turned up at nine at one of my favourite rivers !!! Low low but beautifully clear and looking over the bridge a rise , in fact two !!! Excited delirium setting in .... tackled up my trustee six foot two weight and a new Stuart Croft line ... these really are superb fly lines , dear but my they are crackers !!

Anyway , a weird four hours albeit fun ! Small fish today , all of them , really odd .. nowt over six inches !! And casting a twenty Parachute Pheasant Tail into streamy water leading into pools had a feisty response !! I did search the pools with a tiny tungsten nymph ..... not a sniff !!!

Fishing today did remind me of early fly fishing days on the river Morda or Cynllaith up near Oswestry .. splashy takes by small beautifully marked brownies..... eleven to hand ; none of them rod benders and six or seven that didn't make it !!! Where's all the tubby edw fish that normally show ?? I'll put it down to the flow of water and just the kids out to play this morning !!!

Farmer redoing all the fencing either side , but some considerate exit and entry points for us anglers which is nice to see .... obviously not the same punters who did the fencing at Arrow Kington !!

Anyway a lovely morning .... in dire need of rain especially if we get hot weather on this low river too . Even catching small ones is fun , especially on a dry ... and in the gorgeous Edw Valley.. what more could a river angler ask for ...... bliss !!!!

Bowled up at the lovely pull in at the Hundred House beat .... always a pleasure parking here and my usual drills on getting out , cup from the flask and a peer over the bridge ..... lovely !!!!!!!

Tackled up with my usual six foot two weight rod and a single Goldbead PTN fished in the usual deep holes and had four this morning in my three hours there ... absolutely lovely solid takes too ..... silver fish at the mo ; not the buttery Edw fish of Summer ! But with some feeding and settling into their feeding lanes they'll soon colour up .... some new obstacles here too .... didn't appear much of a problem but getting in and out regularly is part and parcel of the wild streams ...... good exercise too !!!

Only fished perhaps just over half then cut out into the field where the farmer was sorting out flood damaged fencing !! Getting the old thumper going !! Pppffftttt I didn't envy him .... must admit fencing is always put so close to streams !!! Can't think why ! Always see good fencing just hanging in the air !! Oh well ... land use at a premium it seems .......

A fun few hours on one of my favourite beats .... lovely job ..... May give Talybont a crack next week ... hoping the weather behaves .... Happy days !!!

Always a gamble fishing a wild stream in these drought conditions!!! We've heard of skinny Latte well today was skinny Edw !!!! Lol !!

Headed to one of my favourite beats ,.the Edw @ Hundred House , as I know its got deep pools normally! Well actually it didn't disappoint either,.fished from half nine till one and had a ball on a small black Klinkhammer and Parachute Greenwells !! Great splashy aggressive takes when you could get a cast away !! It's tight and my six foot two weight is just the ticket here !!!

Nine beauties to the net this morning, nothing big , all between five and ten inches, lovely stuff !! A few missed and three off the hook also, but good sport on the surface, with olives , uprights on the go from tenish . . . . .

Always good fun here , although tight and huge amounts of foliage now, but as expected for the back end of Summer !Two new trees down across the stream, may be awkward in normal flows! Otherwise a fun hectic few hours which did surprise me , looks like rain back end of the week , let's hope its a decent amount !! Back on the Edw soon . . . . . Lovely job !

This beat is for masochists. First time on here with the water low but carrying a few more inches following rain the previous night. Water a little coloured especially in the morning. Very tricky fishing in jungle conditions. Managed a few fish on a small parachute Adams.
