Had a dull meeting in Leominster, which was made better knowing that I was to be mooching up the river as soon as it was over …… and I was , well actually eleven bells till one , only a couple of hours , but much needed after a hectic week …..
Usual six foot rod , and rigged up with a single Para Greenwells , always does well here …. Nice steady bimble across the big harvested field to the lower bridge , slipped into the river ,and all of a sudden the weeks problems are gone , nice , just how it should be …….
Thermometer dipped and reading twelve degrees , nice , and a bit freshened up too , not much on the level as far as height goes , but certainly running fresher …..a good bit of sport too This morning , four to the net on the dry , all between eight and ten inches , three on and off too , slippy barbless hook today , gggrrrrrrrrr, but I must say , the fish seemed excitable and perhaps the added fresh water has livened them up too !!!!!
Almost Autumnal there , blowy , leaves everywhere and a lot cooler than ten days ago , when it was like the Ghobi desert …. Weird weather ….. I did do some stone lifting , big flat ones , most had crayfish under , our native ones I think , and bullheads too , quite happy to be in the same accommodation it seems !!!!
Anyway , a relaxing couple of hours , only fished bridge to bridge , will try a Stillwater over the weekend for a change , a nice start to the weekend , Poets day is always nice hey ……

Superb beat. Very accessible. Despite no fish, could see them in abundance, just couldn’t get them to take.

Just a quick hour and a quarter tonight , after tea, fished between seven and eight fifteen , basically between the two bridges , first things first , did a thermometer dip , in fact I did three in three locations through the evening just to see if there is a consistency , and there was , sitting at 14 degrees , so all good , at the moment , a bit low , but on this beat , there are some deep sections .
Missed a few good rises in the hour , but managed two , quickly brought in , and quickly released too , healthy little tubby eight inch fish ….. had a lovely swirl by a big boy in the first long glide , and boy did he leave a steady splash in the foot deep water !!!!!!
Nice to see that log jam gone , and some lovely work with the bankside butted up with the chainsawed trees and branches , I presume Louis and his team maybe did the work , looks very professionally done , and there are no obstructions at all now between bridge to bridge , lovely job …. Can the same be done on the Kington beat …… pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease !!!!!!!!!
Even some mayfly tonight , saw five , was certainly idyllic there , and the kingfisher darting up and down twice ….. and the grey squirrels hammering the last of the hazel nuts up above ….. there numbers seemed to have increased big time in Herefordshire . I bagged over a hundred on our patch when they were on the beech mast …..
Anyway , a fun but quick hour , home time , and a nice cold can of Gaymers cider , ohhhhhhhh yes …. The end of a nice day , sorted !!!!

Went down in the evening and walked upstream from the top bridge. A few very small fish rising and two on the hook for a moment. Saw a few larger fish cruising around but couldn’t tempt them. Lovely couple of hours on a beautiful little river.

A mighty warm one when I parked up at quarter to six , reading 24 in my truck !!!!!!! had some drink on board , got waders on tackled up , and walked down the road to the start of the beat …. Getting immediately hammered by horseflies , but the good old jungle formula seemed to do the trick … I’m sure they get attracted to movement first ….. nasty little sods !!!!
Anyway , started with a thermometer dip , which was sitting at sixteen degrees , I’m sure that’ll climb up by Tuesday or Wednesday , so be aware folks when fishing ethically , when its hovering around twenty it’s time to give the fishing a miss , and bash some balsam instead !!!!!
Tonight though , fished between six and ten to nine , first three , good fish slipped the hook , never mind , but stuck with an eighteen para Adams all evening , oh there were quite a few mayfly about , and right up to nine bells too , still getting hammered by the Arrow trout …. I managed six to the net , always gorgeous fish here , nothing huge , between seven and ten inches , but certainly beats the garbage that’s on TV these days …….
It’s quite a concern when that smelly algae is thick in places , and disappointing that this year there isn’t that buffer zone between the crops and the river bank , the corn is right up to the bank , quite literally …. Still , tough times for everyone I guess …. In the faster water gravels were clean , could still do with a week of good rain , stealth is absolutely key here for success , and those two glides hold plenty of fish , just taking your time is key …. Still a lovely three hours , albeit a tad sweaty !!!!!
Oh and to top it off , ordered a curry which I picked up on the way through Leominster , a great start to the weekend ……. Happy days …….

Great fun, the usual difficult casting conditions. Overcome with my new Tenkara catapult technique, thank you You Tube.

Fished between the two bridges on a previous visit a couple of days ago so this time I started at Titley bridge and made my way upstream. Covered only about a third of the available water in an evening session. Caught one brown trout on a CdC olive emerger. Only a small one, but my first fish from a wild stream on the third attempt.

Evening session. Lovely spot. Started at the bottom bridge and got as far as the second before having to stop as the light faded. Saw a few rises but couldn't tempt anything to take the parachute Adams. I think most were scared off by poor wading poor casting or both.

Went down for a couple of hours - 4pm to 6pm. Just fished part of the lower beat. A few larger olives hatching and used olive emerger . Rising fish in shallow water between runs stalked and caught - circa 14” WBT lovely and safely returned. Just got back to the car before a serious downpour.
