A mighty warm one when I parked up at quarter to six , reading 24 in my truck !!!!!!! had some drink on board , got waders on tackled up , and walked down the road to the start of the beat …. Getting immediately hammered by horseflies , but the good old jungle formula seemed to do the trick … I’m sure they get attracted to movement first ….. nasty little sods !!!!

Anyway , started with a thermometer dip , which was sitting at sixteen degrees , I’m sure that’ll climb up by Tuesday or Wednesday , so be aware folks when fishing ethically , when its hovering around twenty it’s time to give the fishing a miss , and bash some balsam instead !!!!!

Tonight though , fished between six and ten to nine , first three , good fish slipped the hook , never mind , but stuck with an eighteen para Adams all evening , oh there were quite a few mayfly about , and right up to nine bells too , still getting hammered by the Arrow trout …. I managed six to the net , always gorgeous fish here , nothing huge , between seven and ten inches , but certainly beats the garbage that’s on TV these days …….

It’s quite a concern when that smelly algae is thick in places , and disappointing that this year there isn’t that buffer zone between the crops and the river bank , the corn is right up to the bank , quite literally …. Still , tough times for everyone I guess …. In the faster water gravels were clean , could still do with a week of good rain , stealth is absolutely key here for success , and those two glides hold plenty of fish , just taking your time is key …. Still a lovely three hours , albeit a tad sweaty !!!!!

Oh and to top it off , ordered a curry which I picked up on the way through Leominster , a great start to the weekend ……. Happy days …….

Great fun, the usual difficult casting conditions. Overcome with my new Tenkara catapult technique, thank you You Tube.

Fished between the two bridges on a previous visit a couple of days ago so this time I started at Titley bridge and made my way upstream. Covered only about a third of the available water in an evening session. Caught one brown trout on a CdC olive emerger. Only a small one, but my first fish from a wild stream on the third attempt.

Evening session. Lovely spot. Started at the bottom bridge and got as far as the second before having to stop as the light faded. Saw a few rises but couldn't tempt anything to take the parachute Adams. I think most were scared off by poor wading poor casting or both.

Went down for a couple of hours - 4pm to 6pm. Just fished part of the lower beat. A few larger olives hatching and used olive emerger . Rising fish in shallow water between runs stalked and caught - circa 14” WBT lovely and safely returned. Just got back to the car before a serious downpour.

Well , nailed all the chores I wanted to do ... pretty goosed but I didn't fancy sitting in front of the Box watching mundane TV , so got my second wind after a scooby snack and onwards to the Whittern at six in the evening .... Great , fish rising when i got there ... Happy days !!!!!!!

A superb two and a half hours sport ... the Arrow brownies were full of their usual spirit .... I did dip the thermometer twice too get a water temp ... which was sitting at 15 degrees so all good at the mo !!

Great takes to my eighteen Para greenwells ... its odd , in the two long glides the takes from the trout there are a kind of a casual slurp ... almost like a carp on floating crust ... you can't take them for fools though and timing is everything if you wanna bring them to the net !! Nine made it tonight , various sizes from eight to twelve inches ... three slipped the hook and a few missed takes too .... always good strong tubby fish here ... it seemed alive tonight ... lively and buzzing !!!!!

Even though its low .... stealth and careful wading will pay dividends and of course careful casting ... most tonight were cast to risers ... Great fun ... a nice round off to a hectic day ... chippy on the way home through Leominster .... weeeeell you only live once hey !!!!!

Couple of decent fish on the Mayfly. Also got very close to a Greater Spotted Woodpecker who did not notice I was there

Plenty of mayfly although surprisingly few fish rising although weather was sunny and bright. Landed a hard fighting plump fish in the lower section that was safely returned. Lovely stretch of river although top section fairly difficult to access. Could do with a drop of rain!

Seemed spookily quiet when I tackled up at five to nine ... there were some risers to mayflies from about eleven ... stealth is absolutely key here at the mo !!! The glides had plenty of rising fish in them ,from tenish , but of course you're only in a foot of water a lot of the time.... tricky stuff and strewth do they go when hooked in shallow water .....

Fished a crippled Mayfly and a D.H.E this morning between nine and twelve ... There is always an air of calm here .... like Edw Hundred House or The Llynfi Dulas ...a very relaxing easy going beat !!!

Five made it to the net this morning ,a few fluffed strikes ; good fish too and two explosive takes to my DHE .... superb fun !!it's funny how a different dry does get a different reaction on the take .... always love that !! Sizes were good today , ranging from ten to twelve inches ... tubby strong chaps !! Bellies fat already with mayflies !!! Great stuff ... plenty of Mays on parade from twelve too !!! And the birds were also picking them off in the air .....

It was only when I got back to my truck had a drink and looked through catch returns !! Whittern had been fished both Saturday and Sunday.... shame entries can't be submitted from Friday onwards ..... as it does make for very spooky trout especially in this low water !! Only recommendations I can gave at the moment is stealthy wading and particularly at Whittern cast tight into the sides ...... A Crippled may was very effective this morning...and in fairness water is still nice and cool ..... Happy days .... Give Claerwen Reservoir a bash end of the week !!
