Down to one of my favourites this morning , the lovely little Edw .... and boy she was a bit low when I parked up ... did contemplate driving on to Hergest but I wanted a challenge and it's a while since I've fished this one so tackled up had a chat with the farmer on his quad , at the field entrance ........ he did say the rain had freshened up the river and was running a bit better .... he was most interested in the wild streams ... good to see ....any way on to the fishing!!
Opted for a Para Greenwells initially which had the desired effect ... good takes to it ... also fished a D.H.E. some olives about and mayflies from half eleven .... a mix of fish this morning ranging from six to eleven inches ... the usual handsome Edw chaps ! And feisty too .....
A lot of low water so I only fished up to the bridge , a fun two and a half hours and warming up quick when I got out and clambered up to the parking spot for a well earned cold diet coke out of my cool bag !!!! Seven crackers and a few missed made for a fun albeit quick morning....... jobs at home to get done while this cracking weather lasts ! Perhaps try an early one on the Arrow at the weekend .... Happy days !!!!!

Difficult to access, lots of trees down. Foulhooked a minnow, apart from that nothing.

8 degrees this morning, much warmer than the hard frosts from the two nights before. River very low and clear. Weather dry and overcast. No action all day. Saw one fish upstream of the bridge which promptly spooked as my flies drifted passed. Sheep very chatty. First time on a wild stream, so lack of success probably due to a combination of challenging conditions and inexperience.

River very low. First time on this beat. The weather was wet and windy with almost no insects coming off. Very tricky fishing: river impassable in some places near the top of the beat. Managed a few small trout on a dry plus one better one from the pool by the farm just above Cregrina Bridge.

By a fair margin the most difficult stream I have ever fished, made harder still by the fact that two trees have fallen down across it, only one of which I could limbo under. Unfortunately this particular stream isn’t one you can get out of very easily (or at all) so I just had to Wade back down the river. Despite all that I plan to return (with machete and compass!) another time as it is a lovely tributary and I ought to have caught more than the one I managed. I had a wading staff and waders with felt soles and still managed to fall in twice.

Well nice to have some decent weather !! Have down some cracking trips up at Claerwen and Craig Goch reservoirs just lately with the rivers out of sorts and high !!! Has been fun catching wild brownies in the hills , but lovely to tackle up this morning with the six foot ,two weight rod when I was getting ready at the bridge at seven bells . . .
Initially still some water pushing through , so opted for a single tungsten nymph with a bit of colour as there is still quite a tinge of brown in the river !! More than normal as well . . . .
Seemed to work well in the faster water and had a mixed bag of thirteen brownies , ranging In size from six to eleven inches !! Feisty fish this morning too , and hitting the single tungsten nymph hard in the pacier water . Nothing on dries this morning and I know I was early but still not a sniff even around tenish !! Only saw the one mayfly too . . . . That said a myriad of insect from sedges to olives and all in between !!!!! The kingfisher was busy up and down , although I missed him a lot of the time , only hearing his shrill call , as you have to concentrate on this beat with the river bed a lot of the time made up of ankle breaking bed rock !!!!!! I nearly took an early bath too !!!! Close call !!!! Lol !!
A fun few hours , and nice to be back on running water ! One of my favourite beats most definitely , although it's hard work with the bed rock , it's so varied here !!! May give the Arrow a bash on Tuesday afternoon , see if the mayfly are out to play !!!!happy days , back to the Ponderosa and a well earned cool beer me think . . . . . . . . .
