Well looked forward to getting on the Edw fir a while , so was nice to bimble off to the Cregrina beat this morning after a five mile session on the tread mill !! Bowled up at the bridge at half nine and temperature in my truck was reading 13 degrees si just nice , and a little overcast. Water really pushing through so carefully does it on this beat with the nasty angle of the bedrock on the river bed , its a real ankle breaker if you don't go steady here !!!!
Mooched down to the start of the beat , some new additions across the river in the form of ash and alder trees, aaarrggghhh shame really , some good water ruined !!! Cest la vie !!!!
Still initially fished a flashback PTN , good solid takes to it , so worked that all the way up to the bridge , some lovely fish this morning too , spotty Edw fish, ranging from six to thirteen inches , superb!!
The pools above the bridge fished well with a CDC and elk, three fish hammered it big time , as there were some sedge dancing about by then , great fun !!! Really strong feisty fish in the pokey current , took some taming with the two weight rod!!!A really interesting four hours sport, and fourteen beauties to the net , a few slipped the hook , but a sporting few hours on one of my favourite beats , spot on ,back here , or at Hundred House next week , lovely jubley. . . . . . . . .

Another really muggy one , was out walking the pooch at four , that was pleasant having tried to get some zzzzz's in the stifling heat , so up with the bats and raring to go !!!!

Opted for the Edw at Cregrina , parked up ,looking a bit sorry for itself I thought !!! Oh well ,here now so tackled up and headed down to the start of the beat , some of the shady pools already showing some rises , so good news ,on with an eighteen Para Adam's initially . Some lovely confident takes this morning, on the dries . Stuck with them the whole three hour session , also fished a Parachute Greenwells , and some lovely takes on that too !!!

Very very slippy bedrock , pretty exhausting stuff too be fair , and fished a tad passed Fedw Farm ,with a tally of seven Edw browns to the net , and three or four slipped off !!! Had had enough by then lol !!!!

Up passed the bridge reminded me of fishing for blennies in Rock pools at Tenby beach , very cautious approach to them , and a cast at the head of each little pool normally produced a reaction to be honest. Fish today in the five to ten Inch range , great fun as always, lets hope this thunder weather produces some heavy rain . . . . That would be just the ticket !!!!! A spot on three hours sport , lovely job!!!!

Warm bright day, water predictably low but Cregrina is blessed with some deep pools so enough promising water to fish. Bit of a hike to the bottom of the beat but some good water to fish, so worth the effort. Very little fly life and barely any rising fish. Persisted with dry fly (sedge patterns) and managed 8 wbt to hand / returned. 4 were plump 9"-12" the other 4 feisty little 6"-8". Lovely day to be out and to forget about the mess we've got ourselves into.

Never done before but pushed onto the top of beat over 6 hours. Most fish caught before the farm house before lunch. 2 or 3 more fish caught in the increasingly difficult water above the farm house. Poor access, jungle undergrowth and low water made afternoon very tricky.

Quick trip up to my favourite stream at Cregina. Zero caught in the morning. I was getting them up but they wouldn’t stay on and I started to worry a bit.
Things picked up after lunch with 9 fish caught. The usual range of Edw trout at 6-10” and I suspect some of my smaller catch were Salmon Parr but I wasn’t very confident so I’ve marked down a couple caught. They had a deeper fork in tail than the trout. Got snarled in Welsh Show traffic on the way home - bad planning!

Well with the weather promising good things again today , got up at four , few jobs , had the pooch a good walk around too , let the hens out , fed the pigs , and was off to sunny Cregrina , or so I thought it may be , but driving there , misty on the bendy A481 road to Builth , nice conditions to be fair , reading about eleven in the truck , good start to the day . . .

Parked up at the bridge , and bimbled down to the start of the beat , river looking low and very very clear . . . Opted for a Para Pheasant Tail for starters , see how the mop flops !!!!!

Things were good and had my first brownie on at ten passed six , happy days , and a cracker too , about eight inches , lovely markings these Edw fish , and one can be very different from another . Worked my way up , some bubbling little pools , but keeping low and kneeling got a cast away in most places , lovely splashy takes , some fish this morning only five or so inches , still great fun on light gear . . . . Fishing my usual six foot , two weight , perfect for here !

The river changes literally as soon as you go under the bridge , think I had to hand about fourteen brownies by the time I'd come to the bridge , it's more livelier water at the lower end of the beat , I did come across some lovely bigger fish in the slower deeper sections up past the bridge . Only did about three quarters of the beat , getting out a couple of fields up from Glanedw Farm .

A superb four hours sport , with twenty one to hand , some over ten inches in that tally , and two clonkers as well !!!!!Great fun . Also fished a small Para Iron Blue , again lots of interest , and some lovely hit son the fly . . . . Some even somersaulting will attempting to hammer the dry ever so funny , smaller excitable six inch fish ,, thinking they are great white sharks , little feisty fish , Greta fun !!

Will head back here again very very soon ,, nice change from my usual Hundred House beat of the Edw , and some fantastic water too , although could do with a top up I think !!!! Some mayfly still about here , and plenty of sedge and other terrestrial insect activity , in fact by half eight , it was alive down in the Cregrina valley , and some lovely rises in the pools , all in all an awesome few hours loved it , back very soon. !!!!!!!!!!!. . . .

I think I should have started earlier than 11 as it was all over by 1. A few olives and sedges around when I started and occasional Trout rising. 6 Trout to 10 inches caught on a DHE. Switched to nymph after lunch but apart from a few pulls nothing else caught. 23 degrees when I finished we'll soon need some rain!

River back to summer level after the recent rains. Hard going couldn't get any interest in dries or nymphs. Eventually caught one on a Killer kebari pattern fishing with Tenkara rod. Lost a couple then met the Otter and decided to call it a day.

After a pleasant morning on the Edw Hergest beat we made our way to the bridge at the Cregrina beat. Heading downstream to the start of the beat was a challenge and after some mountaineering managed to get down to the river.
As we gathered breath there was a splashy rise in the adjacent run. A small green klink was hastily attached and de-barbed, which was duly taken by a feisty little wbt of around 7 inches.
Fishing the runs back towards the bridge produced a further 2 wbts around the same size, both coming from the same run.
The river above the bridge changes to a more steady slow pace and offers little to the dry fly fisherman, so we did the decent thing and packed the rods away and headed for the pub.
All fish admired and returned to grow bigger.
