A smashing little beat but for the overgrown bushies and falling trees everywhere, with no sign of brownies or minnows anywhere, not even livestock in the fields. I don't think I'll be returning to this area, it had taken me 2 hrs to get here.

Did have intentions to head to Cregrina , but pretty knackered after some lugging and digging jobs landscaping the back garden so opted for very local, my old favourite The Whittern beat . . .

Arrived just after nine , muggy overcast and we did have a far bit of drizzle last night looking at my rain gauge at home !!! Seemed fresher in the river than thr other week ! So stuck with a tiny dry Parachute Greenwells and Iron Blue dun and had good takes on them and netted the four that made it too the net !! Three missed fish this morning too ! DOOOH !

Fished between the two bridges and a bit up passed the Titley Bridge ! Fish all between six and ten inches this morning ! Very stealthy wading required at the mo and although a few risers in the two glides !! Tricky to get at and only managed one from the first long glide !! How the season changes, go back two months and you could snaffle three or four out of each of the glides no problem!!

Still a fun morning ! Counted five squirrels I sighted and actually it's been a bumper season for them ! Hence the mass thin out regime I've been having at home down in our wood !!! .410 is on sustained fire I think !!!! Lol !!! A fun three hours on a favourite beat , back to one of the Edw beats end of the week ! Sorted . . . . .

An overcast cool , opted for a local beat as up to the Elan Valley on Sunday chasing brownies on either Claerwen or Craig Coch! Anyway , arrived at the Whittern Bridge at eight bells, kitted up and walked down the Road to the Hunton Bridge beat start . . . .
Very low so stuck with a tiny Parachute Pheasant Tail did see a couple of rises and kept disturbance down to a minimum , but very very difficult with most of the wading level not over knee height !!!
Three fish this morning , all between eight and ten inches! Good takes on the dries and nice to be rewarded , with fishing so tricky in the the low water !! Still plenty of bullheads under the stones ! And five I lifted , produced four tubby bullies !! Lol
A fun but brief session ,.called it a day just passed the second bridge! Worked that lovely run which incidentally has a large ash bough in it oh and also a big bough down in the Bridge pool too !!! Was too big to man handle on my own !! Doooooh . . .
Three beauties this morning , so a relaxing session , Mrs A shopping in Worcester on the Sunday , so a full day up in the Elenydd !!! Lovely job!! These wild streams in need of sustenance now . . . . . H2o pleeeeeeeeeeeeease !!!!!

Cool overcast and looking like a good day as I had a bimble with the pooch out at six bells ! Had some jobs to do but a few spare hours in the morning so headed for the Whittern beat ,.as its very local and an easy wade as well !!!

Looking low but clear when I parked up at half eight ,.fished a Parachute Iron Blue the whole three hours I was there this morning . Some great takes too ,.conversion rate was down this morning and trout initially winning with two on the bounce missed and lifting into nothing . . . . Oh well that's fishing hey !! Eventually contacted with a nice brownie from the first long glide !! Nice twelve inch fish too . Next two fish were ditto in size, both about ten inches ,.subtle rises too ! But the usual good scrap for Arrow fish . . . Last one was along that section before the huge log jam , nice splashy take and a surprisingly decent fish from such low water !!!

Four was my lot to the net this morning,.a lovely relaxing slow session upstream, I generally only do half this beat at a time and today also cut through into the open field after that lovely run of riffles .

I did have a mooch under stones too , rammed with caddis ,.under most of the bigger flat stones . Also plenty of bullheads which is a good sign and also two small crayfish!! Feisty little blighters !! The one was ready for a scrap!! Both slipped back in !! Plenty of invertebrates too , which no doubt keep the bullheads tubby !!!

A fun three hours , very very tricky at the mo with the water so low !! OK if you don't mind stalking risers at a snails pace with tiny dries !!! Heading out to the Elan Valley Monday . . . . Catch some big air and hopefully some brownies!!! Happy days . . . . .

Well a dank dismal morning so headed for the Whittern beat , arriving at half eight , a lot cooler today, nice to be honest. River refreshed and a slight rise and a tinge to it as I tackled up . . . Walking back down the road sneeking along the edge of the corn field and in to the river.

Fished a Para Greenwells the whole two and a half hours and only did between the two bridges . . . . No no , actually I lie like Pinocchio ; I fished just up passed the Titley Bridge along that lovely dry fly series of runs and picked up two good fish along there !!

Fishing was good fun and lovely takes to the dry thus morning, Only cast to one riser and had him , the remainder were caught prospecting my dry in trouty looking locations. . . . . I must say two takes were very subtle in the glides, and one was a cracker of the fish , maybe thirteen inches or so , superb run around on the two weight rod !!!

I must admit after a couple of hours even my sprightly dry fly was looking a bit bedraggled and even a sprucing up and gink didn't seem to improve it ! But maybe it was just what the brownies wanted , they still hammered it in that last series of trouty runs . . . Lovely job . Fish today ranged from the usual tubby Arrow eight inch brownies, right up to the decent one of thirteen inches I had . . . .

When I cut out inti the now harvested field , the river was colouring up a bit more and certainly rising with the heavier rain . A lovely quick session and great to see the river filling up in July !! An invigorating morning !!

By eleven , it was nice to get back to the truck and a quick cup of coffee from the flask! Back home and a full bodied glass of Port and an afternoon watching the Olympics . . . . . Lovely jubbley !!!!

Well with the weather at scorchio, adjusted my fishing !! Up just before four ,.pooch out for an hour,
water in the hens and some grain , piggies fed then off to the Whittern beat of the Arrow . . .

Parked up at the easier Titley Bridge pull in as its not obscuring the gate at the overgrown Hunton Bridge parking spot. Tackled up and walked back down the Road to the beat start !! Positively pleasant even in a t shirt and waders !! Lovely job!!!

Fish keen to smash a well presented Parachute Iron Blue or the Rusty Klinkhammer I fished this morning. Some great sport and seven beauties to the net . . . Two of them lumps for the Arrow , maybe pushing fourteen and sixteen inches the other five were the standard tubby eight to ten inch brownies.

Fished from half five to half eight , which was just about right I felt !! Shall do that again later in the week . . . Plus its lovely being in the river so early !!! Most of the fish were tight in this morning cwtching under the over hanging cow parsley !! Great takes to the dries this morning and a cracking three hours to be fair . . . . Back to the Ponderosa and a rather civilised late breakfast !!! Sorted!!!
