Excellent day’s nymphing. Used two beaded nymphs on a French leader rig. Most of the fish were in the 9 to 12 inch bracket with the biggest at 15 inches.

The river was is superb condition given the fairly decent amounts of rain, probably a foot higher than a month ago. Tried a fish imitator first up (it was a fly recommended to me, but I forget the name!). But not a touch, even down the long glide at the heart of the beat. Then I tried a damsel fly nymph - again, not a touch. In between times, I saw just one small fish gently rise. I then reverted to the tried and trusted PTN - and in the same main glide the original fly had had no success, I got a contact! Turned out to be a small trout that threw the hook! And then no more luck. I haven't really connected with the fish that are undoubtedly here despite several goes here now. But I love the solitude of this beat, so I will keep coming back. But I'm just not sure how differently I'm fishing this beat compared with other anglers here who very often seem to catch plenty!!!

All taken on a dry fly, and all returned to the river (barbless hooks). One Trout was over two pounds and one Grayling nearly one and a half pounds - the others all takers but smaller. Water lower than the day before, but still dangerous and difficult to wade.

Cilmery gauge at a little over 300mm. Mild and overcast with a hint of rain in the air. Fish were rising fairly freely today, to midges mostly. 12 grayling (mostly cock fish) to 15" and 3 trout of which the largest was 10". Most fish took a small rusty klinkhammer but the largest grayling rose to a deer hair emerger.

This is a lovely, secluded beat and probably ideal for a morning or afternoon fish, but could last longer if you take your time, like I did! The river was in pretty good condition, and a small trout briefly took a PTN right at my feet where the oncoming stream meets the main stem of the river before rushing into a very deep pool. It shook the hook, but it was great to see so close in. A bit further downstream I briefly connected with another, larger trout, probably around the pound mark, on a CDC, but it wasn't on long!!! A handful of trout rising & quite a bit of fly life on the water.

As well as the trout, I found a bird nest in the hole of a tree whilst having lunch (they made quite a racket, somehow mistaking me, a 6ft human, for their mother bird!!), I saw squirrels (grey alas) and woodpeckers. And I also found a fledgling corvid lying almost motionless on the floor, clearly either injured or ill. Either way, it was in a very poor way, but it was amazing to see one so close. And buzzards overhead. It was a delight to be out with nature and to see all these amazing creatures! I'll definitely be back. Thanks WUF and the farmer landowner for making this private beat available.

Water very low, bright conditions, wind a challenge to accurate casting.

River clear and very low, less than a foot on the Cilmery gauge. Slightly overcast. Fish hard to find from 1pm til 4pm when the first of 4 grayling took a weighted nymph with an orange bead. Three more grayling in the next hour with the best at 16", a cock fish with two fresh wounds on its flank. This fish came from surprisingly shallow water incidentally, no more than 6" I would say. I switched between nymphing and dry fly at intervals during the day, encouraged by the presence of a trickle of olives of various hue but only had one take, trout of 8" that took a Jingler. Left the beat at 6pm.

After fishing Llanddewi in the morning gave Aberbwtran a try despite steady rain. Two trout of about 12" to a beadhead pheasant tail nymph and two out of season grayling to a weighted red tag, the first being a deep bodied cock fish of 18", the second, also a cock fish, was about 14". Two more fish hooked and lost (grayling I think). Though not the longest beat there is lots of fishable water here. A few olives were coming off as I finished at 4.30, and one or two fish rising.

Fished from 10-3. Went for a swim at midday (first time this has happened in years ) after stripping off and wringing out my clothes worked my way up the beat, river is very low and there is lots of algae and weed on the bedrock... it is extremely slippery be warned! Nothing doing above or below until 2 and an olive hatch brought grayling, trout and a sizeable salmon to the surface. 5 grayling from 13"-15"..1 trout 10" all on the surface, Greenwells, Griffiths and Red Tag. Lost several big fish at the net and would have caught more but was shivering so much I couldn't thread a fly anymore....came home cold but satisfied I had stayed the distance!
