My final session for a few days on the wild streams !!! Thankfully a change of weather Is due in ... hurray!!!!! Mountain llyn time......Fished the lovely Aberedw beat, half twelve till four ... slow going initially!! Not the lovely "wallop" splashy rises of yesterday!! A totally different kettle of trout !! Fun though... as usual I stuck on the tiny dries ...
Weeeeeeeell, when the average depth of the river at the moment is probably twelve inches, dry fly tactics certainly reign supreme ...Lots of insects on parade by one , and, two of the trout I had today were to risers ...nothing huge, in fact the best of four was maybe pushing nine inches !!! Fun though..Although the usual pools didn't produce so much as a boil to my dry ...The fish were in the faster stuff, I did see trout in the deeper pools they seemed spooked... maybe the fresh otter prints along a lot of the beat ....Tarka may have had an afternoon stroll !!!!
I did spot another oil beetle walking down to the beat.... Many of this species are getting quite rare do placed him well off the road!!! Another lovely session on one of my favourite streams....Nearly stopped at the Wye at Builth, but, garden jobs to get nailed, before a pint in The Crown ...Happy Days !!!

Strewth, a school boy error on my behalf, bowled up really an hour or two early today....Knowing its shaded in the Aberedw valley and takes a bit to crank up !!! That's exactly what happened today... Insects didn't really get on thd go till oneish, a mix of olives and Large brook duns. They're similar to the March Brown's, with a slimmer abdomen....
I've got to proof read my reports, as some of it looked gibberish on yesterday's efforts !!! Bloody predicted text ... about as useless as our government !!! Well, not that bad ...... lol !!
Anyway in other news, the fishing , again in the broken riffley stuff , nothing huge to my dry fly offerings....Lovely aggressive splashy takes though..
By half one a good few insects on parade ....Not as many as yesterday, but not a bad show. That nasty easterly wind ...yuk !! Seems it's here for a while. That and low rivers are making it very very challenging!! Twas only the two and a half hours here. I had a meeting with two clients who want a mountain llyn day, then a big reservoirs day in the Cwm Elan .... Here's hoping we get some rain and south westerly winds in April !!!
Five brownies, and two long range releases..... only little chaps but great fun. Amusing watching the dippers... great to see....
Some stone turning revealed lots of young bullheads, masses of baetis nymphs and stone clingers.
A fun session, on a favourite beat ... Things are perking uo folks, get out there, while there's water in them ... it'll be the Elan for me when they get really low ....So come on rain gods ...Three days of the wet stuff please !!!!!! On another stream soooooooooooon .......

Not as cold today but still cold. Still no insects to speak of. So another day of picking locks with cold fingers. All the Summer hotspots seemingly devoid of fish but I did manage 5 fish including a couple of better ones, pretty much all of them from deeper slower channels in the edge, all of them to a small single nymph.

Very hard going today. Cold with water fairly low and clear. No insects coming off and fish in hiding. I targeted blue water and did eventually find a few fish willing to take a nymph. Challenging (but good).

Was hoping for a bit more water after midweek rain but still looking pretty low. Most fish holding in the deeper pools and easily spooked. Managed 8 with the Tenkara rod and mixture of nymph and traditional Tenkara flies.

Another very good day. Flow good and more or less clear water now. I caught steadily all day, half on nymphs and half - including the best of the day - on a dry. Two fish over a pound today.

As perfect a day fishing as I can remember. I went to the river twice today and caught consistently on a very small gold-beaded nymph under a klinkhammer. The river was nice and full with the colour fining out as the day went on. I also caught on a nymph set-up through the deeper pools and finished the day - still cool but brighter - catching some on a dry. At least three fish comfortably nudged the pound mark (maybe a touch more in a couple of cases). A beautiful day.

A couple of hours only having driven up. The river was still coloured from recent rain and the flow was good. Nothing looking up but I managed a couple of small fish with a gold beaded nymph under a dry and one on a black headed nymph on its own. A bit of bug life, not much hatching but one or two mayflies towards evening. Looks fairly promising if it stays dry-ish. I’m staying at the Seven Stars in Aberedw by the way, which I recommend!

Again, another fun fun fun session on my local Edw .... Fished the Aberedw beat ....Care needed here as the bedrock is really nasty, with sudden step downs etc etc and big fissures ..That said, as with everything in life, its a silver lining as going slow is the way ahead casting tiny dries here ..Just the best of wild stream fun this afternoon. Actually I bowled up a bit before midday. LOTS of upwings on the go, and sedge too, with fish looking up. Not stacks of rises, but enough to target and be fun right up to when i got out by the house by the river ...and thar lovely last pool that always holds a couple of good fish !!
Pretty sure I saw the Otter when I had my very late lunch, looking over the bridge in Aberedw ...
Fish hammered my dries this afternoon... and the twenty f fly looked a bit like Bobby Sands after a few fish had been caught on it !!! Sometimes the gnarly chewed up flies do seem very effective, my motto is, if its getting attention by trout, then leave it on !! Obviously a bit of ginking or dri shake is needed now and again .....lol !!!
A cracking few hours ..I think twelve maybe thirteen to the net, with a few that slipped the hook, sizes between seven and twelve inches ...A lovely mooch up one of my favourites, and she's looking perfect for dries at the moment. Home time and a chilled bottle of Westons Cider awaits me !!! Tops of a cracking Bank Holiday Monday hey .....lol !!!!
