Popped down on the evening and tbh it was more to try and sight the Swifts and Swallows down here of which there used to be lots of .
Saw half a dozen or so Swifts and a few Swallows, hopefully there where plenty more over the hill. Fantastic little creatures.
River was just about fishable still in the runs for a dry and water temp 15/16c but not surprisingly nothing doing at all with fly or fish so just enjoyed the peace and quiet and the Swifts. The Kingfisher was busy still too.
Good numbers of tiny olive nymphs on the stones where ever there was decent flow , but of course thats a diminishing resource these days!
Rocks where very gungy in the slack water but not particularly slimy so hopefully that all means the water quality is ok still.
Digits crossed.

Fished fro 11..00 to 16.00 Didn't see a single rise, the air temperature started to rise as I was packing up and I suspect any activity would have been later on as it was the day before on Lyonshall. beat. Saw 2 kingfisher so that was nice and it is a lovely beat. I am sure there are trout there but no looking up.

Fished from 2pm until 8pm. Fairly windy conditions to start the day, but dropped over the day. Not much fly life about, and danica mayfly definitely more or less finished. 5 trout in total. 4 at the top of the beat in the woods; 3 on sz16 hares fur emerger dry fly, 1 on sz22 orange collar PTN. Final fish on sz16 hares fur emerger upstream from the footbridge where the tree has now kindly been removed to give access back to the pool there.

Fished from 3:30pm to 9:45pm. A very hot afternoon fishing, with limited fish rising until the early evening, and fly life starting to appear more then as well. Danica and olives hatching. Fish rising on the upper part of the beat in the woods enjoying the shade. 1 fish landed and 1 nice fish lost while landing it, both to a sz18 blue wing olive spinner. Final very nice fish caught in the pool by the rocks below the bridge at dusk, caught on a sz10 nevamis danica.

Plenty of Mayfly about and a few fish sporadically rising. More than 5 trees down blocking the width of the river , which combined with high sheer banks, makes for plenty of backtracking . Lost 2 and a pleasant few hours.
My skills weren't really up to the confined space requirements .

On a dull, cold, windy day in May with drizzle to add; no fish were rising, no fly selection was attractive and no fish were caught! Furthermore no fish were seen. A disappointing first day back on a river for two 'elderly' anglers.
The beat map shows 'Access Points' to the river, but which added to our frustration as these features did not appear to be accessible.
Sorry to be so negative but after an enforced absence from fishing our expectations may have been too high!

Fished from 4pm until 8:30pm. Danica mayfly, Olive uprights and medium olives all coming off, with fish feeding on all 3, but mainly Danica mayfly. Strong down stream wind making things a little tricky. 2 trout netted, 1 released at the net! All fish between 13 to 15 inches and in good condition. All caught on sz 10 Nevamis mayfly pattern. Wonderful evenings fishing.
