Absolute nightmare of a beat. Long yomp to the start which is fine but the amount of. Barbed wire makes it impossible to get in and out of the river unless your into a new pair of waders. Very disappointed given it’s on such a beautiful place.

Ps only saw 4 fish top all day

I was late to this beat having fished in another area am. Had my 80th birthday recently and feel physically limited so decided just to recce. The river looked OK but access could be tricky, in places. Shall return with waders and light gear. Owner friendly and helpful with parking. Lovely spot.

As expected the river is pretty low with only the deeper pools really fish-able. The weather was overcast and breezy at about 18/19 degrees. 1st WBT of 8 inches taken on a tungsten PTN from the head of one of the pools. a second escaped before I could net it but looked about the same size. About 300m further upstream I saw a couple of trout rising to what I thought were BWO duns. 2 trout of about 6-8 inches fell to a size 14 brown and white klinkhammer, with one of probably the same size being missed after a very aggressive and splashy take probably due to to much slack line in the lazy current. This stretch of the Lugg has a lot of fallen trees making access tricky in some spots.

Hot sunshine and low levels on the upper Lugg this morning. Lots of Coch y bonddu beetles hatching in the river meadows.
A few Mayfly hatching from midday and occasional trout rising. Managed half a dozen trout in the 3 hours I was there on a mix of dries and nymphs.

Back to an old favourite this morning !! Having been camping a couple of days , Mrs A was catching up with some friends in Shrewsbury so I bimbled off to Litton once all the chores were done ....

Should have really left if another couple of hours to be fair ... lots of mayfly and Coch y Bonddu beetles in the meadow bordering the Lugg from about eleven ish ...in fact it was a plethora of upwings .. three missed fish on a big mohican mayfly so from eleven I did down size to a fourteen para Adams .... my six foot , two weight isn't a happy bunny casting big bumbling flies anyway !!!

I also fished club water this morning equally successful and fish savagely hitting my Parachute Pheasant tail initially ..... Great fun ...

A good stamp of fish this morning ..some lugg beauties and the risers I cast too I had !!! Good fish .. three off them were thirteen inches plus ... and lovely colours too , as always.... had a slow bimble back up to the farm after doing just over half the beat ... some negotiating of fallen trees needed .. but careful casting and you get a response !! Shallow and cold I'd describe the lugg at the mo !! Although in fairness still holding a bit of water .. and the cascob brook on the drive down is running so still collecting water from other days rain .....

A fun few hours , still not fully switched on to the big mays yet ..... and only picking off the easy obvious sitters !!! Still , some great sport this morning ... off home and I do believe some log splitting is waiting for me !! Joyous ..... a nice start to the weekend .....

Well a really adventurous day today .... a few hours up at the Lugg at Litton ... a bit low but from the off good solid takes to my Parachute Greenwells in the faster water !!! I did park up the offas Dyke side ... at about ten .. couple of hours on tricky water managed five from here and a few missed on my lovely Rawson 5'7" s glass 0 weight ..... soooooo delicate but sooooooooo much fun with tiny dries !!

Called it a day here at half twelve .... a good days down pour would be just the ticket; but its holding its water well , like the Arrow in fairness ....

Anyway , on my way back home I stopped off in town and had an hour and a half on the Lugg stretch there !!! Again great takes to my dry ... bumping my tally up to nine ... some of them lovely plump lugg fish of ten or twelve inches ..... one grayling too ... all in all a fun if not different few hours ... back to the Ponderosa and time too crank up the mower I guess .... morale is a least high after a cracking few hours and nine Lugg beauties to hand.... back here again soon !!!!
