The water was pushing through really nicely today and with just a little colour. Some mayfly on the go when I got in the river mid afternoon and as I progressed further the numbers increased and quite a bit of spinner on the go towards the evening as well as good numbers of brook dun spinner too. Interestingly the further up the beat I got the numbers increased. However, its been a few years since fished this lovely beat and access is very tricky (or impossible at times )in places now , new barbed wire fences etc and couldn't make it all the way up the beat today . Still got the big pools it used to have though, great.
Fish where smashing away at the emerging mayfly and really smashing away at my emerger too and couldnt connect with any today !! Aaaghh...
Was great to see the mayfly out and some good fish on the move.
Looked like some good fish resident too and will revisit soon when hopefully they've calmed down a bit and slurping on the duns and spinner!
I was staying in the camp field at the fantastic Tan House farm camp site and the Lower Longtown stretch looking really good but was very quiet with fly and fish by comparison which was curious but am sure it will switch on soon enough .
Didnt fish it this time there, another time , but the resident Kingfisher was putting on some fab flybys and was really lucky to watch it close up fishing for a while! Fabulous and so good to be out and back in the shadow of the Black Mountain !

A good hatch of olives in the middle of the day produced a couple of fish, a couple of good looking fighters. The weather was partial cloud with sunny, warm spells

The river was very low indeed. The large pools on this beat were still deep but had very little flow. I’m surprised I caught one if I’m honest. Had another two pulls as well.

Was disappointed to be so close to residential properties .
