My first visit to this attractive beat. Despite the tree-lined banks, there is more room for casting here than on many of the wild streams.Surprised by the clarity, given all the recent rain, no doubt due to the absence of arable land in the catchment. The water was pushing through & most of this beat is shallow riffle. Spent the rather grey afternoon prospecting with beaded nymphs in the two pools & other deeper spots without any sign of fish. I’ll return here later in the Spring.

7 x trout 6-9 inches, Goldbead Hare's Ear nymph. Washed off the upper Wye today so fished a local stream at short notice. A lot of water was still coming down from the Forest, but it was not unduly coloured. As every spring, it's amazing how the gravel of the pools has been moved around by the winter floods, plus a couple of newly fallen trees. There are two places now where you have to dodge around a tree by getting out and then in again - left bank usually best, but look out for old barbed wire.
