I wish I'd taken more notice of a previous feedback advising those unsure on their feet to be wary. I saw only 2 'pegs' that I could manage and opted for the one in the bottom section. River fresh and looked promising but no luck. Only fished for an hour. I drove my 4 x 4 along both sections with no problems. Plenty of wildlife including a healthy looking Heron! More of a rece but I could be back. Dropped in to the winery/bistro on the approach to the top section and had a lovely coffee and cake and a couple of bottles of wine (to take away!). Looked top notch with restaurant and craft gallery. Open Wed - Sun. I'll be back but not just for the fishing!

River in perfect condition, lots of hungry chub but Barbel quiet. All a bit creaky for the stones but found the best swims at the bottom of cardiac crest!

A first time reccie here for me today . Set in a stunning valley and time actually seemed to slow down here ! Beyond peaceful and hot in the sunshine today! 0.47m on the Byton gauge and seemed to be pushing through the pacier sections at a fair old lick and the colour was enough for me to be not too adventurous with the wading in any steep sided gravel pools! Same in the pacy water really. A few bits of fly around but not much moving on top but stuck with the dry, such a nice day for it.
Went downstream to start and is pretty much socked in down there with herbage/trees but enough places to squeeze in and fish ok. Seemed to me though that its going the way of some of the wild streams sadly with no foliage management and good fishing opportunities being lost. Had a walk above the bridge in the evening up the r/hand bank but the left hand bank looked to have better access on the whole! The bendy bits just above the bridge looked deep and very interesting indeed ! Nice pace on them too today.
Looking forward to running a deep nymph or stick float through them sometime this winter. Lots of small olive nymphs/stone clingers and loads of shrimp on the rocks up in the fast water at the weir. The local kingfisher was putting on some great close up flybys today and dippers busy busy as ever.
Couldn't find the grayling today, too busy just enjoying the peace and good weather I guess!
