The river was a bit higher than we anticipated but dropping and clearing so we decided to persevere. Some pools were very different in the high water and wading mostly impossible.

The fish were keeping out of the torrent too and all the ones caught on our usual dries were on an inside line - sometimes right under the rod tip. The trout were paler as they often are in high water so that close to they could be seen coming, The best trout was about 12" and the best grayling - all of which came from the same run - 14". We did swing a salmon fly but no salmon seen - although an 18" trout came for a look see at one point.

It was a great afternoon with the sun shining - a lovely day for our last trip of the trout season. Hopefully the weather will allow us some more time on the river for grayling in the next couple of months.

4 Trout, 3 Grayling

Fished downstream from toll bridge. High water but falling. Very strong current. But they were there. We had 5 nice barbel to 8lbs. Unbelievable no of very curious cattle in the fields though.

Blanked. Fished 0930-1230. River up and very fast so extremely tricky. The banks were slippery and a tad treacherous. I fished groundbait feeder and pellet but struggled to hold bottom. I also encountered a lot of snags. Almost every cast I got stuck in weed and lost several feeders. Not sure if there is something I am missing here. A very kind gent came and opened the car park gate for me which was locked on arrival. Not as attractive a stretch as Home Fishery and Middle Hill Court but still pleasant. Highlight of the session was a Kingfisher.

Lovely morning session ,strong south westerly and some heavy rain showers but the Browns were eager for a dry fly taking the cdc/elk sedge pattern with relish in the choppy waves created by the wind.
Had a few losses and missed a few rises but ended up with 8 nice Brown trout to just over a 1lb or so but most were 3/4 lbish.
Really enjoyable few hours.

River running high but not unfishable. Most wading spots weren’t workable so a static day. Due to water colour, water height and speed of water a blank day.
