Blanked! One of those days unfortunately with very little hatching, and most of the fish switched off. The only real hatch was of tiny Caenis in the late afternoon - a few small trout did rise to them but didn't see any bigger ones, I guess that was just sub-optimal foraging for them. Had to work very hard for about half a dozen bites, mostly on tiny size 20 dry flies to try and match but very difficult just getting an offer, and then even harder to hook them! Tried nymphs too, couple of half-hearted bites there that didn't stick either. I waited until evening in the hope that something would start but that was even slower - maybe too cool, it was a rather cold day for summer. Still great fun though, and lovely just being there despite the slow fishing - another very beautiful Usk beat. Good to see the river at a decent level now too. I will have to try it again another time!

Fished the whole beat 3pm to 7pm, two rods booked. Saw very few rises, no takes to a nymph, two takes on the dry, small fish and did not hook either properly.
Car parking is a little confusing as appears to be a private space. I did not on door of cottage to check but no response.

Another fabulous day on the beautiful River Wye. Got to the beat as the sun poked through the clouds to pre bait a swim at the bottom end and started fishing around 6.30.
First few hours were a Chubfest (not to be confused with a music and drink celebration in West Bromwich). Things picked up when Stefan arrived for a chat - he must have some sort of magical, barbelly presence as within 15 minutes I had a couple of splashers. I had 2 bigger ones after he left, then moved upstream to a peg he'd recommended.
I had one of the best sessions I can remember. From mid afternoon til I left around 9, I had 12 barbel, losing a handful to bad angling, and at least as many chub. One barbel was a baby, no bigger than a pound.
All caught on banded pellet over hemp, boiler and groundbait.
Top day on a top beat - great access, well maintained pegs and the bailiff is ace. If the land owner is reading, you've got a top bloke in Stefan.

Very disappointed that no effort had been made to make any swims. It's a few years since I last fished this beat and it looks like no attempt has been made to clear the bank. Luckily we caught a few chub so the day was not a complete disappointment.

Just three hours early evening fishing in apparently good conditions. However, result was only four chub up to around three pound on meat and pellet, and no barbel.
