First rod on the beat this year (so the owner told me). Fishing solo, i was nervous about wading most of the beat as the water seemed to be quite high with steep banks. I tried the pool nearest the house, however in a keen wind and with lots of tree cover, it was tricky, so I took off for the top of the beat. I was in time for a nice hatch of March browns/Olives ( not sure which but they were busy). This lasted from exactly mid day to nearly 1.00 pm. 4-5 trout then started to feed on surface flies at about 12.30. Had an enthusiastic take but not a decent hook up and another near miss then it was over. This was my first try with "pop up" emergers and I will definitely give them another go. Might be worth investigating parking near the bridge. Nice warm day with bursts of heavy rain, then bright sun.

My first look at the Honddu. River seemed to be running off fast, with a tinge of colour.
Tried duo, nymphs and spiders to no avail. I was rusty and clumsy, and consequently neither touched or saw a fish. Probably spooked a few though. I should have headed for the nearby Skirrid Inn instead.

The last day of the season where the river was still rising when we arrived at sunrise where it peaked at 4.28m's at midday. Tough fishing conditions where a 5 ounce lead wouldn't hold bottom in some of the swims. Lots of roving and fishing various swims with one Barbel between us which was around 6 or 7lb for mate Nic.

Fantastic fishing on both float and feeder. Fished feeder morning and later afternoon/evening. Picked up barbel and pellet. All toward the end of the beat. Float fished drying the day and at times a chub a cast and very decent size too. Caught on 6mm pellet. Also picked up 3-4 barbel on the float as well as a bonus. Great stretch of the Wye for sure.

14 Barbel, 35 Chub
