What a wet day! Just my luck after the low clear conditions. Sadly nothing caught or seen but from the catkins bringing the first flush of colour, the bird song filling the gorge - my time here is always a pleasure.

However what wasn’t expected to ‘breach’ in my swim was a Grey Seal. Have they ever been known to travel this far upstream before? Thankfully the creature didn’t loiter and carried on till out of sight, I dare say to upset the Wyesham beat too.

My thanks to Mr and Mrs Hudson for a lovely day on their beat, ill look forward to returning very soon.

After a good day yesterday same beat, today the weather turned against us with heavy snow so we decide the risk not worth it and decided not to fish. Will back in the summer !

A wet, cold and snowy day made good by a few bites and a tidy 9lb 8oz barbel and a 1lb 6oz grayling. A lovely beat with every type of swim you could ask for when barbel fishing. The only downside being the hill you need to go down (and back up). Please bear in mind that if you don’t have a 4x4 vehicle you will struggle to get down and back up safely in wet conditions no ifs or buts you will struggle. This is no criticism of the WUF or the land owner just and observation
