4 x trout 12-15 inches, Waterhen Bloa. This was a very wet morning of relentless rain. I started with the spiders with the idea of cashing in hopefully on an olive hatch by midday or a little later. But the rain got stronger and the river started to rise instead. Chunks of the bank fell into the river. No fly and the fish seemed to switch off, so I trailed off home in a rather bedraggled state.

The river level was normal to low for time of year, about 1ft visibility. It was quite mild but rained all day. Started fishing on the crease in the bottom swims which produced an eel on cheesepaste but otherwise was strangely quiet on the feeder and lead. Tried bread, meat and pellet with no success. Roved upstream and caught good chub (3-4lb) from undercut banks. Moved back to the crease at the bottom for the afternoon and started to get knocks on boilie. Was hoping for a barbel. However, the rain and wind intensified and we gave up around 4pm when the brollies took off! Fantastic wildlife - a flock of siskins, chiffchaff, redpoll, Barnacle goose, goosander and buzzards kept us entertained despite the weather.

River was a good level, sadly it hammered it down all day and got soaked. But had a few fish. Stefan popped by and gave a great deal of good advice. Good day all round

Fishing:Trout (River)

This is a bit early in the season for me but having seen some good reports from the Usk in the past couple of days on social media, I decided to give it a go.
There were a few LDOs coming off when I started but not much fish activity. At midday they hatched in numbers, along with March browns and the river came alive with trout taking the flies off the top aggressively. After 30 minutes, the river went quiet again. In that time I'd caught 4 on dry fly and lost quite a few more, with the best 2 fish at 1.75lb
A fantastic 3 hours on the Usk, made even better by the company of an otter.

A lovely day. The river in nice condition for piking. Only had 1 bite but it was a very good fish, a massive pb and my first 20! I guess she weighed somewhere in the region of mid-20's. Sadly I had forgotten my scales so will never know how big she was but she was roughly the same length as my unhooking matt which is 110cm long!

Had a couple of hours out on the Rectory stretch. River has dropped a good 6 inches from yesterday so it was looking good. Fished the main Rectory pool saw nothing touched nothing, then went up to the mill pool, half way down bang into a fish of about 10lbs had it on for two minutes thrashing on the top when the spinner came loose . Never mind where there is there is more

All fish caught on feeder. The river level was normal winter level and I would have expected more fish.
Just one of those slow days.
