Good to see they have properly layered and compacted the access road down to the river. Odds of getting stuck largely reduced!!
This is a lovely beat improved if you’re able to drive its length.
Fish came throughout the day from 2 swims. Most fish taken on meat and a few on dumbbell or boilie with GB feeder. Barbel to 9lb 1oz and chub to 5lb. Two good barbel lost.
Rope access would be of benefit to some in the wetter months.

A nice beat...a bit featureless at the top end..no where that really screams fish..but plenty of fish able swims..Great sport fishing a rolling bait through the fast shallows..all barbel around 5lb..corn and pellet...all the chub coming on meat.

Only one rod fished, the other couldn't make it.
I arrived a little late, so missed the dawn feeding. The day was bright sunshine all day, so not a lot happening fishing wise.
Picked up a 6 to 7lb Barbel about midday all the same.
Caught the other 2 barbel and the chub in the evening, when the direct light was off the water. I was very surprised not to have caught more chub, perhaps they wanted a moving bait, as I stuck with pellet and feeder tactics.
Water level was about 0.34m on the Ross gauge, so it was low, but not too low.
All in all an enjoyable trip, thanks again to WUF for securing access.

2nd time to this beat in 5 days, river has dropped from 0.112 on the 12th to 0.082 on the 17th on Millbrook gauge(i think that would be the the nearest) making it so much more easy to get around i still managed to fall in twice!! I think i was over confident .
Fished from 11 till 4 started top of beat again, 2 caught on red spiders others on heavy nymphs in deeper water all but one over 12" good fighting fish also lost 4. I intended the finish at the pool by the bridge but there was a young family swimming there all having good fun i think I'd had my fun for the day plus getting cold so i left a little earlier than intending.
Another great day on a great Usk beat.

Nice grayling on my first cast, then quite hard thereafter, with a few trout caught on spiders, but a few more trout came to hand fishing a steamer on a sink tip.

First time on this lovely little beat. Fished from the bridge up to the pipes. One small trout and a few salmon parr. Other than that nothing else seen. Water was very low and it was a (rare) hot, bright day. Challenging but absorbing fishing. I’m looking forward to another visit in better conditions.
Well worth the 6 minute drive from home!

To anyone who hasn't finished this beat before 17 chub would seem a good result. However having enjoyed the incredible chub fishing HL3 normally provides I'm a little concerned for the state of the river.

Great day today ,water had dropped from 0.112 on 13/9 /24 to 0.092 today 17/9/24 making the river a lot easier to get around. I still fell in twice!! i
Started at top of the beat very little rising so used spiders and nymph on the point .Two were caught on red spiders and rest on a heavy nymph in the tail end of ripples mainly in the deeper water all good fighting fish 12" plus apart from one 8" I intended to finish at the pool by the bridge as there were fishing rising in this pool when i came on 13th when i got there a father a two young lads were there swimming seemed to be having great fun . I'd had my fun for the day and was wet and cold so decided to make my way back to Malvern i finished around 4pm Another memorable day on the Usk. Thank you fishing passport
