Very quiet day. Spent the morning spinning & floating a worm but then changed to a legdered worm after some advice. Caught a nice little brown trout on the ledger. Later reverted to spinning and got hit by a nice rainbow but it spat the hook so I only got to see the flash in the water!
Lots of small fish feeding on the surface into the evening but ignoring all our spinners.

A couple of pulls on wet fly but nothing stuck

Really like this beat despite the tough conditions. Fished the upper section which was ideal in low water but might be a bit more tricky with more water on. Feeder tactics for the two of us between 2 and 7.30pm

2 Barbel, 4 Chub

Fished same swim as last week, on this beat, but found fishing totally different. Fished from first light to 6 pm, bites were hard to come by. There was a lack of bites from the small chubb, caught good sized chubb to 5 lb on float with luncheon meat. The only barbel was a fish of 7 1/4 lb caught at 7 am on 10 mm pellet. River very low and needs a bit of a flush through. However an enjoyable day. Thanks W & UF.

Becoming a favourite venue , pleasure to be back there , just myself on for the day , level low … so fished the faster/ stretches …further up , 5 good chub alas no barbel , but the chub was good sport . The river needs rain …

Arrived midday with my young lad. First visit here since December, always a pleasure. Low and clear meant chub were order of the day. Tried upstream in fast water but strangely not a knock in a swim where I’ve always had chub action. Moved on after an hour to below island. Lowest I’ve ever seen it here. One canoe capsized with three people in it, debris and belongings everywhere, they managed to scramble to safety on the island. Had chub action from the start in new swim, all we’re big lumps and managed a nice 6lb barbel on corn. Bird life was epic. Super day. Can’t always rely on barbel showing up in these low water conditions. I am a chub fan, scale down and have some action. Hope to be back mid September , trotting caster when allowed. Brilliant day.
