Weather cool all day and river sluggish. 1 fished in the morning and 3 after a very nice lunch in the White Lion in Ross.
It fished hard but we all caught from across the beat and, importantly, we all caught barbel. Straight lead with loose fed pellet and a variety of pellet hookbaits. Two of the barbel were 'one last cast' fish at 1950 before packing up so lots of time waiting but great satisfaction at the end of the day. Please God send some rain....
Nice chat with the lovely Stefan who has done more great work in opening up 3 swims up the top and one below the fence. I count 18 swims with decent access now, making this one of the most accessible beats below Hereford, yes steep, but this is the Wye. Our 78 year old found one he got in fine and caught, so happy days!

I only fished from 5 pm till 8pm, pretty much solid from the off, caught on feeder & float, best time to visit this beat, very little canoe traffic!

Worryingly I saw several cormorants just downstream from Foy bridge. These birds were actively feeding on fish under the surface of the river and should be culled. There are too many of them.

An extremely disappointing first day of our three day fishing trip. The swims were completely overgrown and inaccessible. With thistles, brambles and stinging nettles creating impenetrable, precarious routes to the river level, which is very low at present. This is a serious safety hazard and after a brief risk assessment and the fact we are both elderly gentleman (66 & 68) it was deemed unsafe and unfit for us to fish.

River painfully low. We tried hard all day but could not find any barbel, only chub.

Area:Towy

Beat:Carmarthen Amateur Angling Association

Fishing:All Species (in season)

No. of Anglers:2

We fished the Towy at Nantgeredig … a beat we know and with easy access even though we didn’t arrive tilll 8.45 . Swung a small black and silver on a floating line and a Daione on a sink tip … moved one fish and had a few knocks on the Daione but no firm contact . Enjoyed star gazing during fishing interludes… finished at 0030 when mist rose off the river. Pretty well as expected…
