This beat has had a bit of a hammering this season. I checked the catch returns this morning and saw that it hadn't been fished for 4 or 5 days so I thought I'd pop down after lunch for a few hours. Didn't see a sign of a fish and no rises or takes at all - even tried my trusty Can't Fail Fly, that didn't work either. Got above the middle weir and then started to see signs of life and got 4 to the net, all on a size 16 pheasant tail klinkhammer. Back home to log my return and saw that the beat was fished again this morning - that would explain it !!! Think I'll head over to the Escley next, that hasn't been fished since last year!

River at a good level but quite coloured. Had about a dozen small trout, biggest 10”. Many more bumped or missed. Not much rising but a CDC and elk brought them up plus a couple on beaded ptn.

First time on this beat and loved it. Lots of different types of water to fish. Really beautiful location - very peaceful. Parking not too far from the river. Tried some float fishing throughout the day but no joy. All fish caught on feeder and pellet throughout the day. Two of the barbel were biggest i've seen on the Wye - must have been close to 9lbs
Cracking beat.

Don't know what to think really... After the rain over the weekend and good levels and water quality today, I suppose I was expecting to see some salmon, but again it was a very quiet day. In the afternoon some trout started to rise, but not many.

In a favourite spot, I was casting in the hope of a salmon more then expectation. I kept hooking some boulders with weed on, Getting frustrated after snagging one I yanked the fly off. The 'boulder' leapt out of the water with my fly in it's mouth! It got off of course, but it was a least a salmon.

No other sightings.

The perfect day for salmon, with water .775m and slightly coloured. Hooked 2 nice trout on spinner throughout the early afternoon around half pound each then hooked and landed a cock salmon of 7lb in pool above bridge.
John landed two trout of one and quarter pound each on fly in woodstream

High risk strategy: taking my seven year old daughter to fish on the Wye with me..... We decided trout and grayling would be our targets and once we started to strike at the movement of the indicator fly more aggressively, we started to consistently connect with fish. Best around 12"+ so big enough to be hugely exciting for Sienna.... "the best day ever" was her considered verdict after six hours on the river!!
All fish were taken(and returned) in Lady Alexandra's in about three feet of water on a tiny gold head on the point. A few splashy rises at the dry, but nothing connected. First time back at Abernant for some years so a real joy. A pair of kid's waders is the price for such a success.... we will return for more

3 Trout, 3 Grayling
