Three nice trout caught to dry on Parachute Adams or BWO. Frustrated at times as twice as many fish than I caught jumped off. River was very low and clouded-up every so often. I imagine there were farm animals cooling off further up stream. Upper part of beat where it goes single bank is not fishable. I walked up it for a couple of hundred yards and gave up as I couldn’t get a cast. Nice day.

A lovely evening, fished for a couple of hours from 6.30pm. Gentle SW wind, the odd fish rising. It’s a great stretch of river. However: the banks are generally steep along the length of the beat; complicated by jungle-like summer growth of nettles, brambles and Himalayan balsam. All in all rather frustrating. Yes, you can wade, but for the deeper pools you do need to exit the water and then spend a while looking for another entry point. I’ll come back for the grayling in the winter when the undergrowth has died back.

This beat has a great atmosphere. Unfortunately it was too hot, nothing happened, nothing seen.

A very hot, sticky and uncomfortable day for fishing, standing in a hot sun all day, without any sign of a breeze. Following the recent floods, the rivers now beginning to fine down to noted summer lower levels, with numerous plume's of streamer weeds now showing. Despite me having doubts on whether the fish would feed, quite surprisingly in part they were there.

Fished 2 x 8mm hair-rigged halibut pellets behind a pellet / hemp / groundbait 50g feeder from 5:00am to 11:30am (6.5hrs), with fish taking from the start, with a lull in feeding through the middle, and then a pickup in action towards the end. On two occasions, a chub took my bait as it hit bottom, and before I got to put the rod on the rest. No photographs or fish weights were taken in that heat. The fish were netted, unhooked, rested in the net, and released promptly each time.

River level at the Ross-on-Wye gauge (Friday 4:00am) - 0.53m; weather - sunny all day, 24C, no breeze at all. Netted 1Nr barbel circa 6.5lb (lost 2Nr others), 18nr chub (lost 3Nr others). NB: A few salmon showing up and down the river.

Tight lines everybody.

Hot and sunny clear day. Fished the wooded section as had been successful there before. Caught a number of chub and could have had a lot more but decided to move to try to find the barbel. This was surprisingly difficult. Eventually picked off two in the top field. My colleague sadly did not manage to get a barbel but at least he had a chub or two and got to see mine!
