Beat 4 in evening. Alternated between pellet and meat. No sign of barbel. Constant chub attention to meat resulted in one small fish. Kingfisher did much better than me!
Several salmon splashing about.

This is a conservative chub estimate, as we lost count quite early on in the day. There really are a lot of chub in this beat now, with the better ones to be found in the bottom swims. The barbel are a different story - still very hard to track down, but in great condition when you come across them.

Very hot day today , was unsure how the day would pan out . River level lower than expected. Started on the feeder just to see what was out there , no action for the first part of the session. Switched to the float rod for a bit of trotting , and the chub where having it . Great fishing with some lovely fish biggest at 4.5 lb.

At 5pm went back to feeder rod then the barbel joined the party . What a day ! And probably the best I’ve had on the Wye . All fish in mint condition and quite hefty. Even on a hot day the Wye can produce the goods

Overcast in the morning, sunny in the afternoon, stiff breeze most of the day which made float fishing awkward and only produced one chublet. We all fished the beach and a low summer level made the whole river easily accessible. 2 fished morning till tea and 2 lunch till 8 with a civilised pub lunch in the middle but this did disrupt the morning anglers.
One swim produced 3 of the barbel, the one above produced the other one (biggest 9.04 to Mr P on his antique cane rod and Mitchell 300 - he nearly became Caradoc pole vault champion) and all the fell to bomb and pellet right across. The rest of the beach was patchy with not many chub showing. Only one family on the beach and they stayed upstream out of the way.
I may figure out how to fish it in another few goes, but a lovely day nonetheless.

Really tough day! High expectations due to a trip here just a week ago, which seemed to be confirmed by all 3 of us catching first cast around 7 am.

After an early flourish, nothing!! River switched off, no sign of any movement and no matter what we tried we couldn't locate them.

Still, a beautiful beat which is really well maintained with great access.
