Area:Usk

Beat:Glan-yr-Afon

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

River running at 1ft, which made getting around fun, but worth it, Usk always seems to fish well with some stain, a gold headed fly with a fluro red tail did the business, making it stand out well, catching in sheltered water. and quieter water just off the main stream.

First day of a five day trip. Nice to see the River up and looking gd. Three of us fished 2 in the bottom field and one in the Church field. Caught 17 Barbel between us straight lead and pellet feeder. Spoke to the Land owner nice chap a fellow Yorkshireman living the dream in the only place I would live outside Yorkshire. The Mighty Wye!!

5 x trout 6-8 inches, Rusty Klinkhammer. Today could have been easier on my patience, one way and another. To begin with, I was washed off from a day with a client on the upper Wye after the river rose following heavy showers. Irfon and Usk alternatives were also in flood, so we rescheduled. Then I thought I would cheer myself up by fishing the Cannop Brook near home. However, after catching a few at the bottom end I got less than halfway before running into a series of dog-swimming parties. To be fair, it is a Saturday morning in summer and a new path has been opened alongside the stream. Everybody wants to enjoy themselves. "Caught anything?"they ask, hefting another stick into the water for the dog. Smile back, because it's all a test of character.

Area:Upper Wye

Beat:The Rectory Fishery

Fishing:Member Rod

No. of Anglers:1

Gave it an hour with 1 rod fishing and the other on the shoulder, but by 7am the river was up to 3ft and colouring fast so packed up and went downstream. Fish running through, saw fresh grilse when looking off bridge at the 6.10 start...persuaded us to give it a go, and 3 more in gravel catch when fishing it.

Beat:Pontithel - River Llynfi

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

First time out for a month the recent rain hasn't affected the Lynfi much.
Fished Duo with a Tenkara rod as the wind was strong and gusty making line control very difficult. 4 Trout around 8 inches with 3 to the dry fly. Changed to a small dry at the top of the beat as there were a few Grayling rising, hooked and lost 2.

nothing happening at all , weather very windy and river running clear. most were caught on size 20 black gnat pattern and a few on nymph. lost a belter of a trout that took me under a submerged branch and snapped tippet . other than that fish all the rest between 5-12 inches. fly on the water was very limited until a huge hatch of midge and other than small fish rising there was no activity from the larger fish.

Area:Lugg & Arrow

Beat:Lyepole

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

Great location for fishing. I had 7 grayling and 1 brown trout - 2 grayling fishing a duo, 4 grayling and 1 brown trout to French nymphing, and 1 grayling to dry fly. Found this beat very inaccessible due to the bankside vegetation, barbed wire fencing. For a stretch of river with a mile long beat, there isn't much actual fishing available.
