Better day today only a few march browns around. Only a few fish rising today but still managed 2 on the spiders and 3 pulls too! Very hot for time of year.

Spent the morning on the opposite bank to the a470. We had one bite all morning. The wind was blowing strongly up the reservoir making it hard work. Swapped to a470 side around 2pm where the wind was much gentler. The fish started feeding around 3pm and we ended the session with 7 lovely rainbows between us. Method was worm popped off the bottom.

Brilliant warm sunshine with a cold upstream “gale”. Got a couple on a dun during a brief morning mb hatch then nothing.
A pleasant place to be but is it worth £43 per day?

Bright and warm conditions had me thinking the carp would be waking up and on the feed, well they were definitely awake however feeding was another matter altogether, tried multiple methods from surface to mid water and bottom baits to to no avail.
Lake looks like it could do with a downpour or three to flush it through.

Very low and Gin clear, good hatch of olives in the morning but they were super spooky. Both fish were large 16” and fought very well. Both came to cdc olive on a long leader, wind made getting drag free drifts almost impossible but fun trying.

Saw a few rises but nothing came from it. All by the bridge. Lovely evening

All catches came within a brief hour at 13:00 on the dry fly during a good hatch. River level very low and had a strong up stream wind to contend with. Missed a few other fish, likely grayling. Beautiful stretch of river Wye.

This is the first of two days' fishing on the Penpont beat, so what follows applies to both days. No fish, no rises, no takes - river was low and clear, wind was bitingly cold and from the East. I tried spiders and PTNs on 5 weight line and used the dry fly rod just to get some practice in. I imagine much finer tackle was needed, plus a much better angler than me to catch fish!
