This wasn't such a bright idea. Supposed to be a few hours trotting, but with the river was still very fast at 2 foot 4 inches on the gauge and still with a bit of colour. Found on arrival I had cleverly left my wading stick at home - a bit of equipment I rather needed today. So I tucked myself in under the bank and finally produced a 14 inch grayling which was a major drama to play up the current. This was the only success of the day. I then lost all the terminal tackle in a snag which rather discouraged me, so wandered along the bank to look at some salmon fishing and dream of the coming season.

Underestimated the amount of rain that fell during the night. The river was very coloured, rising with a strong flow. Sheeps carcass beached on gravel spit mid stream on lower section. Not a touch today.

The coldest day of the winter to date, with the wind chill making it feel below zero, coupled with low water levels for the time of year made for hard fishing. Sadly no Grayling showed an interest in our trotted maggots, just two long and lean out of season trout. Nonetheless an enjoyable day on a very interesting beat, although we were very glad to warm up in a café in Pembridge when it was finished. The only piscivore seen was a Kingfisher.
