Despite the very low clear water (or maybe because of) fish were hard to find in any number and we didn't catch many when we found them. We did do a lot of healthy walking!

Fished with a fly for salmon for approximately 4 hours with no success at all. Tried a variety of fly patterns - nothing helped. River was very low - some pools almost impossible to fish with a fly as a result due to insufficient flow to make the fly swim.
Beat bailiff was very helpful in terms of fly advice and telling me where to fish, but no fish even seen, let alone caught. Coarse anglers did report one salmon jumping mid-afternoon.

Lovely sunny day but the river was running very low and clear. We fished at the lower end of the beat and after a slow start the fish eventually came on the feed. We stuck with the conventional feeders and luncheon meat or sweet corn baits. We did lose a fair amount of end equipment on snags but that is the Wye for you. A great day with 2 of the chub exceeding 5 lbs and the barbel up to 9 and half pounds. Saw plenty of wildlife including the kingfisher on his territory. This environment on a well maintained beat is what fishing is all about and as ever Colin the bailiff was full of helpful advice.

Had a morning session on the Edw above the main road bridge before breaking camp. Very low as expected and it doesn't take long to fish it now as there's very few decent pools! That will all change of course when it gets some rain. The trout where in good nick though so lets hope they hold out a while longer!
The wading's a bit tricky now with the thick algae on the rocks, the usual felt and studs didn't quite cut it today so take care!

Another lovely day in a beautiful location with red kites and kingfishers for company. Wall to wall sunshine and a low river meant that only one trout was seen all day, and no opportunity to cast a fly at him. The grayling were rising sporadically but were mainly disdainful of our surface offerings. But they did seem fairly partial to very small weighted nymphs fished mainly duo. We had fish throughout the river in the more turbulent and broken water, with a good number coming as the light dropped - until they simply switched off. Most were in the 11" to 14" range, but we had one fish measuring 19" and two at 16".

Did not fish for salmon on the day; booking the salmon ticket was always optimistic. River level was fine for trout of which we saw plenty but caught none.
We didn't fish the lower beat pools (Blue and Chain) as getting into the river appeared a lot easier than getting back out. Generally the beat is lovely and we found the easiest access where a stream runs in a couple of fields upstream of Ashford House. We had no problems wading.
