Arriving early again we walked up to the very top end of the beat, baiting up a couple swims just after the woodland. We settled in the swims the far end of the field and fished for a few hours. No luck until early afternoon when 2 barbel were banked in quick succession, 5.08 and 7.12. Moved up to the pre-baited swims, again fishing for a couple hours with no success. Finally the rod wrenched around to what turned out to be an incredible fight with a barbel weighing 9.06. So nearly the magic double!! We moved back down towards the car and the lower half of the beat. Fished up until dark, unfortunately losing what felt like another specimen sized barbel. Nevertheless a good day was had on a river under challenging conditions. All fish fell to groundbait feeder and pellet or meat.
On a slighly more negative note, we did notice 2 small (2-3lb) barbel dead in the water in the shallow cattle drink at the top of the beat. Nothing suspicious I'm sure, but maybe worth other anglers keeping an eye out in the near future.

Short session 2-5pm. Two fine conditioned Barbel netted, both about 8lbs. Great fight from both fish. Unhooked both in the water, 5 mins recovery in the net and release. Fantastic. Caught on Hinders Ellipse dumbells with PVA bags filled with various sized pellets and doused in Ellipse oil. Will be back on the water for a longer session tomorrow.

A mild day in prospect and the river fairly high but with it looking very fishable filled us with some hope. Having fished here before when the water was much lower it gave us a very good idea what a difference some rain makes to the Wye.
We enjoyed a steady days fishing and caught a few decent Chub with the biggest just over 3lb came as the light was fading. Plenty of chublets and dace were showing plus a very lively small Grayling. Not a long stretch of water but a real treat in the Autumn afternoon sun and we thank those for providing us with the opportunity to fish it.

One 6lb barbel caught today. We did have the ticket for yesterday as well and the report submitted then reflects what happened today also.
Thanks again for a great weekend.

First Time on Craig Llyn so spent a lot of time walking the whole beat to suss it out. A lovely stretch, with some deep pools and also some excellent long runs a few feet deep which were perfect for grayling. I caught a few fish here and there on deep fished Jig Patterns and a couple higher up in the water. I'm sure there are some sizable fish here, the best of the day being a fine grayling just over 2lb, and will be back for more.

Arrived early after a couple hours drive. Found the river in the condition expected. Chocolate brown and pushing through at a rate of knots. Baited up and fished swims in the lower beat. Due to the conditions, we are only fishing a few metres from the bank in the creases and slacks. All fish came mid-late afternoon (4.08 chub and two small barbel in the 5-6lb bracket). All fish taken on pellet with a groundbait feeder. Really nice looking beat. Let's see what tomorrow brings.
