Arrived early morning to a very low and equally slow running river so I wasn’t overly confident of a bumper catch, the last few weeks of very hot weather probably won’t have helped as well. I spent the day roaming the beat looking for “fishy” places, and looking for some good spots for a return visit when the river is in better condition. First fish of the day came around 8am and was an eel.I’ve not caught one for many years and I’d forgotten what a slimy, squirmy things they are. That was it until about 3pm when I was graced with one of the Wye’s immaculate Chub. I fished until just before 8pm and apart from a few good bites and one lone Barbel that cruised past my rod tip enjoying the afternoon sun that was the sum of my catch for the day. I was only fishing with feeder/pellet, I wish I had taken a float rod along and tried a bit of trotting with a waggler as the water pace was spot on for that.
The beat is a lovely place to be, lots of areas that will produce fish once the river has some more water and some pace. The cows have made some great swims where they have made their way to the water. I parked on the old train bridge embankment, the lane isn’t over grown and easy access. The only thing is there are a couple of overhanging brambles so if you’re precious about your car then I’d park in the other parking area which has plenty of room and easy access to the water.

All fish (5lb - 7.5lb) came from the deeper, upper reaches of the beat, to feeder fished pellet. Although most of the action occurred early morning / evening, bites could be bought during the day using smaller (8mm) pellets and a size 14 hook. A superb day, it's rare to fish a venue with no traffic noise whatsoever. Hats of to WUF for providing these excellent angling opportunities, long may the Organisation flourish!

We were disappointed. This beat has been very productive in the past but the barbel were few and far between. The river is very low and sluggish and though we searched hard for the barbel particularly in the faster swims if they were there they weren't inclined to feed. Let's hope there will be significant rain soon. Didn't we think we'd be asking for that after last year!

Wonderful day but no fish caught. Saw 2 rises and one Brownie that ignored my cast. Tried nymphs, Daphnia Blob, Fry Lure. No takes at all. Very hot day. 4 or 5 canoes and a heron - all well behaved! Very happy with your service and access to 3, 4, 5, 6 very easy. Thanks.

Tough day all round. Nothing caught, not even a bite. Weather conditions (hot) and low water levels made it hard going.

Beat:Edw Hundred House
Fishing:Trout (River)

Very low water levels and high temperatures meant I didn't really expect to do much more than recce the stream for a future visit. Access difficult with many fallen trees and obstacles in the water. No fish larger than fingerlings seen, but the sighting of a kingfisher twice and also a heron together with stunning scenery made up for the lack of sport!

Having fished the wye for a few years now we expected to catch even though the river was VERY low and clear with bright sunshine, but we only had 1 barbel of 6lb and 1 chub both on 8mm halibut pellet.

River with a slight tinge of colour maybe from the overnight storms in the area. 3 chub from one swim early in the session. A small barbel from one of the more open swims in the cow field. 2 fish lost from under the trees, one felt like a decent fish, then one landed around the 6lb. A 7lb fish followed from another of the swims under the trees. At least we a caught. All fish taken on quivertip.

4 chub (3 - 3.5lbs)+ 2 eels caught by one angler a couple of swims down from the pumping station on medium elipse pellets - (first time I have lip hooked two eels consecutively!). Angler 2 fished the fast water at the lower end of the fishery and did not get a touch. Water levels very low as expected and probably not conducive to barbel feeding during the day.
Two anglers fished the opposite bank to the fast water at the bottom end of the fishery until lunchtime. Presumably these anglers were sold day tickets or were guests of the landowner/farmer. This did limit swims we could fish on the day.
