21 x trout 10-14 inches, 14 out of season grayling 9-15 inches. Things are looking up. To be more accurate, the trout are starting to look up. Another fairly cold day and, at 19 inches on the gauge, still quite a big river up here. I couldn't cross to exploit productive areas from the left bank. However, between 11am and 3pm there was plenty of surface activity with a slow trickle of march browns most of the time and an intensive hatch for 20 minutes around 1 o'clock. No need for tungsten today; fish could be caught on the surface or just under it. Woodcock and Hare's Lug was the main scorer of a team of spiders and later I fished dry with a Deer Hair Emerger which also worked very well. If you want an imitation of the whole adult fly, tails and all, try the century-old March Brown pattern from Dai Lewis of Tregaron. In fact, the sport was distinctly better while there were just a few march browns around; during the intensive part of the hatch, there were so many naturals on the water the artificial was being missed. Three cheers for the MB.

Very nice fly water. No fish caught but it's a beautiful spot to spend a day on the river.

Good level and recent colour dropping out. Hooked a good fish on Flying C in Willow run on 3rd cast but due to drag not being set correctly lost it when the fish had worked out what was going on and decided to do something about it. Fished through Willow run down to bottom and through the woods plus Legg Meadow. Nice day to be out on the river.

Nice little beat/tail of water. Sadly no fish caught but I saw a Silver ghost moving through the pool I was fishing around 10-15lb.

My first ever Brown trout caught on a dry fly so really chuffed. Had read up on the benefits of a wet and dry duo which worked great. Caught 5 between half to one pound, missed 4. A great afternoon of fishing which taught this amateur lots - can't wait for my next trip. Thanks to the fisherman by the bridge who provided useful local advice.

Following the helpful advice of the Booking Office the river levels were fishable (although pushing a bit but fairly clear). A small hatch around mid day and missed a take from a micro trout. Some small grayling (1-2oz) caught on weighted nymphs later. Not sure if we didn't get to grips with venue or whether early season blues. Like to try later in May/June to see where fish lie. Very attractive beat and great to get out.
