No fish caught or seen. River had a tinge of colour when we arrived and we fished to lunch time without any success. Went back to the water after lunch and the river had risen 6" and was the colour of chocolate. We gave it to 3.30pm and went back to it to see if it had cleared any, but it was even darker and higher so we gave up.

We had a very good day fishing at How Caple Court and between the 2 of us we managed to catch 21 Barbel upto 8lbs 4oz and 17 Chub but only upto 3lbs 8oz. Most of the fish were caught by trotting lunchon meat, we also ledgered using halibut pellets. All the fish seemed in very good health but we noticed that 3 of the Barbel had the lower tails missing. Between 06.45am - 09.00am 5 Cormorants were seen flying up stream.

Started well. Two trout 10", 12" and a 14" grayling, also a good trout lost, all within the first hour or so on a CDC Dun. Missed a couple of takes in the second half of the morning, then nothing for the rest of the day.

12 barbel and 1 chub. Feeder fished sweetcorn mid river, bridge swim nice fishery. Needs working parties for opening up more swims, only 2 swims near car park area then a long walk to anything approaching a swim. Recommend visit to the gym before fishing if unable to drive down to river. Bailiff called it cardiac hill . Second access point not marked and seriously steep down to river.

10 WBT landed and released, all on duo with one taking the dry (elk hair caddis) and the remainder all grabbing the nymph. If we were remotely competent fly anglers we could have probably doubled our tally. A wonderful beat with a tremendous variety of lies from deep slow pools to tiny streamy riffles and stoppers. Loved every minute, even during the deluge experienced in the early afternoon.

A slow day on a river that had a tinge of colour and some pace. In total 4 Barbel, 2 Chub and 2 Eels all taken from the top 2 pegs. All the barbel came before 12 o clock on pellets and the Chub and eels came a little later on meat. No more bites from 1pm till when I left at 3pm. Directions were fine and parking was close to the river - all the pegs are well presented and relatively easy to access. I hope to return again.

We fished beat R48 in the early afternoon for about a quarter mile upstream and downstream from the mid point bridge and didn't see a sausage. No fish, no bites and no rises. This is a challenging stream to fish with significant growth to the sides and overhead making casting very difficult. There is little doubt that the fish will see you before you see them and this, together with our poor timing, was probably the cause of our bad day.

Lovely stretch. Caught 1 WBT on dry fly. I was using a Tenkara rod. No real problems wwith trees. Be careful wading after the Old tree bridge as water is very deep.
