The final day of our trip to the Wye, one of our party having gone home. The river had dropped to 3 foot above normal summer levels and fell a little more while we were fishing. We opted to fish the deeper slower water in Leggs Meadow and managed 13 barbel between us on a mixture of pellets, boilies and paste. As usual on this excellent fishery the fish were of a good average size, best being 9lb 1oz backed up by several 8's and 7's.

One 12" brown trout on small Parachute Adams. Lost two decent graying on same. Day quite warm and river low despite this "summer" we're having.

No fish-- river risng again and a wee bit too high for safe wading , did a bit of downstream wet fly. Banks along side river, on house side, very narrow , naturally very muddy but undercut in few places so wading stick went straight through!!
I parked down at the designated lay by and then went through the gate by lay by to river. This was my mistake as instructions do say entrance to water is via the two gates either side of the house. However there was a chap salmon fishing already on the stretch I initially walked down to, so I returned to the road again and went to water through the proper gates. However on my return down the road to my car I was stopped by a chap who accused me of poaching in his salmon beat. We eventually sorted out I hadnt but it was an unfortunate incident. I was at fault by going through the wrong gate, however the salmon beat owner says this is the 5th time he has had WUF folk on his beat.I can only suggest the beat map/directions highlights that the lay by gate is not to be used?

Again the river was very high and really pushing through, very few swims were fishable. Managed a few chub and a couple of barbel in about 5 hours fishing, one was a cracker of a fish just over 9lb all on pellet feeder.Would like to try this again on the float as i think it would fish best that way, obviously when levels return to normal!!

The river was dropping after deluge previous week and water colour was good. Bright sun and little cloud did not bode well and so it proved. Sport was restricted to small brown trout & odd coarse fish, on fly/spinner, generally sections 3 to 5. Nothing could tempt the bigger fish evident from the occasional big rise to surface food(?). A salmon was seen going up river at end of section 5 under trees on opposite bank. Frank caught some nice Shad on spinner, one about 2lb, all returned to river safely. Our thanks to Ian who was very helpful on our first visit to the Wye - we shall return.

Two salmon caught, 10lb in Bachawy and 14lb in Bathing Pool. Both on intermediate sink tip and size 4 Cascade. 10lb-er was slightly coloured, 14 lb-er was silver.
A lovely beat, strongly recommended to anyone seeking quality fishing and not wanting to drive to Scotland. WUF service excellent, as usual.

5 hour morning session, 16lbs slightly coloured cock fish from Stone Catch, first ever salmon. Glory halved as it came to a spinner but no choice in this pool with high-ish water. Some fish showing in Edw pool. Thank you WUF.
