Fishing poor, could do with a map marking good spots as one day fishing is no time to learn where to fish.

Very overcast skies made it quite dark under the trees, Klinkhamers with fluorescent hackle posts made it easier to fish. 4 trout between 4-5'' and 1 at 10''.

Enjoyable day, parking slightly tricky due tight village situation and the access road impassable (to me) being churned up by logging lorries. No salmon caught but instead two trout about the same size as the no. 3 Mepps that I was using, both returned. Only mild annoyance was two canoeists who looked pretty sheepish and cleared off as soon as they saw me I'm pleased to say.

Fished from 9.30am until dusk, one trout under five inches in length. Very little in the way of movement in or on top of water. Banks are very high, also overgrown. Steps down from carpark need to be trimmed. Water is deep and not very good access from bank. Seems to be set up for spining for salmon.

Continuous sunshine kept most fish down. River is in fine order, slight peat stain with strong flow. Caught six grayling to 1lb and 1 trout same size, all on Red Sedge. What a peacful spot with just the odd chugging train. More activity when the sun dropped but, alas, could only stay till 5pm. I have fished this stretch for several years. Plenty of grayling. Unfortunately the farmer has fenced the first 200 yards so close to the bankside vegetaion that there is no easy passage and some excellent pools and runs are inaccessible. There is planty of water to keep you busy beyond. Carrying a folding pruning saw would be helpful though. The people at the hotel very helpful.
