Good consistent fishing throughout the day and five anglers in close proximity also achieved similar results

We only fished the river from late afternoon as we travelled up from Kent in the morning. The river was running fairly high and coloured but was clearing as we fished into the evening. There were a few trout rising to the hatches later in the day, but none could be tempted by our flies.

Wading treacherous, water coloured, much of the river unfishable for novice river fly fishermen, advice was asked when booking and perhaps the extra water changed the nature of the fishery, but I would question sending inexperienced river wading anglers to Fenni Fach. One plus point, saw two salmon making way up river within couple of feet of where I was standing. My fishing companion also saw an otter midway up the fishery.

This started off unpromisingly with rain and chocolate water but amazingly by the afternoon, a little sun and the fish near the wall didn't care about the colour of the water. One landed and two lost using a dry olive, olive nymph and a pheasant's tail.

Mis-timed an evening assault on the river. Height up to 2 foot at Fownhope and quite coloured, although still a couple of feet of visibility so not impossible. Fished Corner Tree and Vanstone carefully with no result. No salmon seen but had wonderful views of an otter and her young cub. Tremendous fly activity at dusk, caddis and spinners (Yellow Mays?), which brought a few trout and chub to the surface despite the extra water and colour.

3 brown trout between 1.5 and 2 lbs, all returned.

Only very small fish rising, river mabe a bit coloured from yesterday's rain. Blank.

Got there at 2.30pm. Had already been warned by Terry it was high and coloured so may not be worth going, except with a spinning rod. He was right! Walked the beat for half an hour just to have a look and left at 3pm.

Weighted nymph, fished down and across. Trout around 5". 3 other fish hooked but not landed.

Fish were caught with the worm, it was a good day. Weather was sunny and dry, other anglers were also catching fish. I came home a happy angler!
