I put in a report of my days fishing on Seven Sisters but it was not very informative so I thought I'd better give a few more details. The salmon took a 2 inch copper Willie Gunn fished on 10 ft fast sink tip. It was caught on the Biblins Run on the right bank about 10 yds down from the shingle beach water. Conditions were good, the water height at Monmouth was 1.38 but the river did rise a few inches through the day.

Not the easiest of days due to the blustery conditions and downpours. Upstream presentation of any fly mostly thwarted by downstream wind but when the wind did drop there were rising fish to be had and water clarity was good.
Started the day off well with two small Wild Brownies just below the bridge taken on a CJ's Ducks Dun (size 14) and then later in the day (in between downpours) managed 3 more fish between us on Blue Winged Olive, March Brown and a Greenwells Glory a few hundred yards further upstream.
Sporadic hatches brought the fish to the top and had there been less rain and wind the day would have been a lot different.
Finding the right timing for the strike was difficult as we missed a LOT of takes, there being quite a lot of smaller fish. A further 7 fish shed the hook (fishing barbless of course). Even with the elements against us it was still lovely to be on the Usk again and the Glanusk Estate beats never fail to please.
Had we fished wets I'm sure we would have had more fish but why on earth would anyone want to fish wets when their are rising fish!
All fish returned.

The fish were not rising in the morning for fear of being knocked unconscious by the hail from the intermittent showers. The temperature was all of 10 degrees and this is mid May. The afternoon saw some fly life and with it the occasional rise, this enabled me to catch six brown trout to nine inches all on an Iron Blue.

Fished the beat for about three hours. Experienced the odd shower and it was windy throughout. The first fish came to my first cast at the far end of the caravan site. The second not long after - both to a small PTN. 5" and 8".
Changing to a small rust coloured Klinkhammer encouraged some real sport. Although nothing was showing on the surface the fly attracted several fish. Two unhooked themselves, a third of about 11" came to the net. A superbly coloured, fin perfect specimen.

Water level perfect and clearing after rain. May fly hatch just starting as the sun came out but strong winds made casting very demanding.
3 brown trout caught between 3 rods 2 of about 4" returned, 1 of just over 1lb retained. All caught on Mayfly, dry fly.

Water 0.74m and coloured. Some trout rising and landed 2 at 3/4lb on dry rough olive size 12 above rock casting upstream. Allowed fly to go below me and a fish of 2lb 3 oz took the fly as it began to skate. Grassed this fish after a 10 min battle.
All fish caught between 12 and 1pm. John concentrated on salmon with no result fishing until 5:30.

2 small trout cuaght - 1 x 1.5 pound on dry and smaller one of 3/4 pound on a surface fished wet. Conditions on 1 of the days was good but high river levels later in the week made fishing difficult/impossible.

Cold morning. No fish to be seen. Warmed up at about 13.00 hrs with lots of fly life. A brown dry fly with a gold thorax was very effective. We found that only the top end of the beat was fishable.
