Cracking day with a double figure catch of trout, the best was just under 2.5lbs. Some good hatches of Yellow Mays, Medium Olives, Grannom and even some March Browns which the trout hammered.

Fishing was on a cold day. River water dirty but fishable.
Lots of sedge coming off the water throughout the day. Fish didnt seem to be feeding on them. One small brown and 2 salmon parr on bead head nymphs and adams dry.

March Browns coming off water at 3pm when fish turned on for about 25 minutes. 4 browns, 2 of which were a 2.5lb hen and a 1.5 lb cock fish. Best fish I have taken in river.
Great result after a slow start!!

Thanks. Catch return: 1 rather surprised brown trout. There was a nice hatch of May fly and the trout were rising, but not to my flies! The South African chap on the beat landed a couple of very nice brown trout.

Lovely day but obviously I am a bit rusty.

Fished on Saturday (and on Tuesday after the river had cleared). Lovely beat. Caught (with partner Becca) 7 on first day, 13 or so on next all on dry fly and all to consistent rises. Was delighted to see biggest March Brown hatch I have seen on the Usk in seven years although we caught mainly on LDO (and Grannom imitations) just as we do every year. Must try a March Brown soon! Lovely beat, good weekend to fish it.

2 x trout 12 inches and 18 inches. The larger fish was a lovely fat one. Everybody got excited (including the fish for a short time) about a supposed march brown hatch that afternoon. I took specimens of a male and female, and when I got home came to the conclusion they are probably large brook dun. I will send them in - see what you think. We are now well into May (although it feels more like April) and I haven't identified a definite march brown yet from the Usk.

Very nice beat with a good mixture of fly and spinnng. Unfortunately we didn't catch a thing. Arrived at 9.30 am just after high tide, so a little late and stayed until 7 pm. The only hint of a fish was a nibble on my spinner from a very small brown trout.

As to why we didn't see a fish? Maybe because we had no real rain in the prior 2 weeks. Maybe because we had a hard late winter, who knows?

Early start to the day's fishing, with the hope to miss most of the rain. Used a small dark grey gnat immitation dry fly for first two hours. Within the first half hour I had one small grayling of around 6 inches, a small Brownie of similar size and a larger Brownie of about 10 inches. The rest of the session continued with earnest, between sparodic showers. The end total was a very satisfying two Grayling, nine small Brown Trout ranging from 4 to 6 inches and three larger Brown Trout around the 10 to 12 inch mark. Happy Days!! The best fishing I have had in years.

A very pleasant days fishing in beautiful surroundings. I slowly progressed through every salmon pool starting at the Cockpit and finally caught a fish at the very top of the Cordora Pool with a pink flying condom - I initially got very excited, but subsequently found out that I had hooked a 12 pound Pike (tailed by two of it's "relatives" for some reason) - caught and released.

As a suggestion for the future it would be nice to be able to access the beat using a none 4 X 4 vehicle (possible if the access road ruts were filled with crushed hardcore, or similar).
